I also wonder why Bryant or Wade would need to play off-the-ball more w/Shaq? Was Shaq the primary ball-handler? I must have missed those games.
Maybe I should have posted it as (LINK?) or "LINK?" Well the .MP3 should be up soon at 95.5's website. Maybe someone will be so kind to tell us what time Quick said this. I'd like to hear this myself before freaking out.
I don't feel that Roy should be unwilling to change. He's obviously doing it right now. I do feel, however, that handing over the offense to Miller (if that's what actually has happened) may be a bit premature. We'll see. I still don't think Roy has the same future at SF as he has at a quasi-SG, though.
He didn't say that. What I find laughable, is that people on this forum are even buying one cent into this. Brandon Roy has done wonders for this franchise, and if you want to bitch about the guy who really turned this franchise around with his unselfish play and team first attitude, go ahead, you are playing a losing hand. Basketball players know how they are used best. I would like one person here to tell me that Roy isn't right. Can anybody step up and actually make a case for the fact that the team would not be better with Miller and Roy at the starting guards, and one of the actual small forwards to play the spot up shooter guy? I agree with Roy. He should be playing shooting guard. Or PG. But not the spot up shooter guy.
Link here - http://www.955thegame.com/Shows/Wheels_At_Work/ Quick was on Hour 2. Getting ready to listen now. Starts at 19:20
I think the proper word here is "arrogance". Funny how I posted it in response to one of YOUR posts. haha
You maybe right and I suspect KP has planned for one or the other. I mean you basically have two SFs that are "true sfs" and 2 PGs that are true PGs. Either KP realized one will negate the other and one is the "plan b" or he's like trader bob and wants to get the most talent possible. I suspect it's more to do with Roy and where he eventually lands on the team. For example: A line-up of Miller, Roy, Webster, Aldridge and Oden looks solid. But I also like a line-up of Bayless, Fernandez, Roy, Aldridge and Oden. Or even Miller, Fernandez, Roy, Aldridge, Oden. And that's why I question this quote. He's changing, which looks as a very "unselfish" trait.
Is that really Roy's qualm, that he isn't at SG? Or is it because the ball isn't in his hands more often as the "focal" point of the offense? I do think he should be at SG. But I heartily resist the notion that he should be the focal point of the offense. So in the sense of Roy wanting to be treated like Lebron or Wade, I do not agree with him.
I went to 82games.com to see where the real difference between Brandon last year and this year was (granted large sample versus small sample isn't totally useful, especially with all of the flux in rotations) and I saw a few surprising trends. this year: http://www.82games.com/0910/09POR5.HTM last year: http://www.82games.com/0809/08POR5.HTM The biggest difference I see is a jump from 66% to 79% of his shots being long jumpers, which is pulling down his overall field goal percentage. A couple of other items jump out. He's being assisted on 50% of his long shots this year versus last 35% last year, but last year he was assisted on 27% of his close shots where he hasn't been assisted at all on his close shots this year and his percentages are waaaaay down from a year ago (45% now versus 58% last year). Perhaps the real remedy isn't him handling the ball more, but him being able to cut into the lane and receive passes near the hoop.
You're unfucking believable... Roy is one of the most unselfish superstars in the league and has always been a total class act. In what alternate universe, should the best player on your team handle the ball LESS? That's the only question he's asking and it seems like a pretty good one. And by asking that question, he isn't saying he isn't going to work on his game - he's just asking the question. Jason Quick just wrote this in today's article: He's adjusting, trying to adapt, so it's pretty fucking obvious he's working on his game. I don't need to ask Roy. I can ask the coaches who've voted him into the allstar game for two straight years. I can ask the city of Portland which has made him the face of their franchise. I can ask the national media, several of which have said he's already a superstar in this league. I can ask any of his teammates and they'll tell me this is his team - He's the leader, he calls the player meetings, he calls people out when they aren't giving 100% in practice. Or I can ask the Blazers front office who annointed Roy as great with the contract they gave him. But I don't need to ask anyone, since I've seen him fucking play. "Fans" like you are a fucking joke. Now I'll let you all get back to describing how to use brackets.
EASY NOW EVERYONE.... You all need to slow down and hear the entire Quick interview. What RoyIsClutch posted was the very last statement Quick made but there was a lot more said. Sorry I would transcribe it for you but I don't type that fast. You need to listen to it before this gets twisted any further. Again, here is the link - http://www.955thegame.com/Shows/Wheels_At_Work/ The Quick interview is at the 19:20 mark and the start of the Roy comments are about 3 mins later.
Roy isn't sure about the 3 guard lineup. Roy realizes that he needs to sacrifice more for the team to be successful. Roy told Nate that he wants the ball in his hands more. Nate told Roy to be aggressive and demand the ball. Come off screens harder. Express his authoritaaay! (Actually Eric Cartman says that but in this case it seemed to fit)
Sounds like pure logic to me, although it's obviously NOT what he said unless he can vocalize parenthesis. Ron with the ball in his hands is the strongest weapon this team has, and right up there with anyone else in the league you want to mention. He's made himself one of the best in the world at it. This team is a lottery team if he left today. To say to him "That's nice, but we've overpaid an aging veteran PG on the decline who we don't dare ask to sacrifice his own touches" so can you just go stand in the corner while this 1 and out master dribbles around and jacks up 8' airballs", is rude and unwise.
Of course he can vocalize parentheses, and all other forms of punctuation too.
