Uh lol, you fail again at stats dude. Paul got OWNED by Kobe in PER differential 07-08 at 82games.com. And this is "24" PER Kobe.
yes, the magic outplayed the cavs in the playoffs as well. just like the lakers outplayed the cavs. does that mean dwight howard outplayed lebron in the playoffs?
LeBron had 29 PER against the Magic, and needs everyone to compliment him on the team and become spot-up shooters for him to put up those numbers. Yes you can make the case that Howard + his defense and fit could be better than Bron.
kobe did not play better than lebron in the playoffs. if you can't at least see that, there really is no point in attempting to have a conversation with you about anything kobe related.
This is what Hollinger writes about PER on ESPN.com "What is PER?" http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&id=2850240 I agree with him.
LeBron faced terrible teams the first two rounds, exactly what did he prove? If you can't see that Kobe destroyed him in the Conference Finals, 30 PER to 29 and shut down Melo after he torched Ariza Game 1, you can't be helped.
I actually thought Gortat gave Cleveland more trouble in the playoffs, especially on the offensive end. Howard did the job on the defensive end, but the player who outplayed LeBron down the stretch was Hedo. In fairness though LeBron's teammates were atrocious in the Orlando series along with the lack of adjustments Mike Brown made to help out his superstar.
He lacks nuance, he doesn't understand that the Rockets have even better perimeter defense than the Magic.
watching them play, i saw lebron play better. then the stats also indicate that lebron played much better. those two things together are enough me to say that lebron absolutely played better in the playoffs.
I agree too and this PER is best utilized in figuring out fantasy basketball player rankings. And just like his contention that PER doesn't favor defensive specialists they aren't valued very highly in fantasy basketball leagues either. He should focus on this more and re-do his formula.
Clearly he didn't have better stats, or else he might have gotten passed them. He messed up in overtime and 5 out of 6 fourth quarters that round. First quality opponent he faced and he didn't meet Bryant's level. The Rockets would have done an even better job on him.
I'll have to agree to disagree with him. If you look at the Cavs overall body of work last season against the elite teams they were sub-par. The Cavs & LeBron steam rolled a Pistons team who didn't show up and limped into the playoffs. A young Hawks team and then lost when they faced a real challenger.
when did this discussion switch to the cavs vs the lakers? the cavs certainly may have been sub par against elite teams last season. that doesn't mean that lebron was sub par, does it? this always happens when someone tries to argue kobe over lebron. the argument just doesn't exist as individual players so they try to pretend that kobe having better teammates indicates that he was a better player.
Lakers: Rockets (Battier/Artest/Hayes, 28 PER), Nuggets (Shut Down another superstar, + 30 PER), Magic (27.5 PER and doesn't use all the touches). Cavs: 39-43 Pistons, Hawks with injured Joe/Horford, Magic.
