Just looked and CP3 only makes 13.5 mil this season? Wow, it really could be done if he's trying to force the issue. It could take pieces like this (contract-wise only). Bayless = 2.1 mil, Fernandez = 1.2 mil, Miller = 6.7 mil and Outlaw = 4 mil to get er done. Yeah it's a ton of talent, but I doubt they would agree to anything less. Hell they may still laugh at us for offering it.
Yikes. The people I do not want to trade, from this team, are: 1a: Roy 1b: Oden One or two of Miller/Blake/JB/Rudy, One of Webster/Outlaw, Any of Joel/LMA/Rooks/Picks. But there is no point in trading for CP3 if you can not have Oden around - and the same, imho, for Roy.
If they blow it up they want cap relief and young, cheap talent. They won't package him out without sending out an albatross contract.
Isn't Peja a Poison Pill contract? He has a fat contract, and is hurt most of the time. But if we had to take him to get Paul, I guess you do it. Although I wouldn't include Oden. The reasoning being, if Chris Paul can get Tyson Chandler to average about 10 points a game, how many would Greg average working with him? 25+?
I think a team that could, and should be able to acquire Paul, and would be the worst, IMO, is OKC. Lots of really young talent that may or may not fit together. They have roughly 8 million in cap space right now as well.
Fernandez, Bayless, Outlaw and Miller for CP3? <--- Would you do this? Would it be enough or would we actually have to give up one of our big three to get CP3? Of course hypothetical, just wanted to feel out the opinions regarding CP3
We have a ton of cheap talent as well. Not saying it's going to happen, but if OKL can do it, we would be able to offer better, IMO.
The current problem isn't the coach, or even the GM. It's the cash strapped owner. Shinn blew his wad when he signed Peja, Chandler and re-signed West knowing he'd also need to give Paul a max. extension. That gave them a very short window (basically one season) and now looks like it was done more to convince Paul to re-sign than to be a perennial contender. Now he's broke again. He tried to give Chandler to the Thunder in a salary dump and that back-fired. So, now the team is losing, he's stuck with some of the worst contracts in the league and the superstar he blew his net worth to convince to stay wants out. The problem is can the Blazers get Paul - without giving up Roy or Oden? Or, will he be the next gift wrapped superstar given to the Lakers? I think the Blazers have a lot more to offer (young, cheap talent and expiring contracts). I just hope Pritchard is willing to cut the cord on some of the guys he drafted - and is willing to eat a big contact (Peja) or two in return. Given the fact that Pritchard wanted to take Paul back in 2006, this may be the one player that would cause him to give up some of his young pets (Bayless, Batum, Rudy, etc.). It would be fitting irony if Martell Webster was involved in a trade that nets us Chris Paul in return. It would help undo John Nash's 2006 draft day blunder. I'm not getting my hopes up, but I'd love to see a team that features Chris Paul, Brandon Roy and Greg Oden. It would be nice to keep LaMarcus, but I'd give him up if David West (or even Emeka Okafor - he can play the 4) is also included. The details would be complicated due to BYC restrictions, but with so many young cheap players, plus Joel, Blake and Outlaw on cheap, short term contracts, something could be worked out that works under the CBA and gives NO what they want in return. The real question is will George Shinn be willing to give up his one and only superstar that he practically bankrupted himself to convince to sign an extension a little over a year ago? BNM
I'd imagine CP3 would want to compete for a ring. Ain't happening in OKC, even with Durant and him together.
I would absolutely do that without blinking. And throw in picks and cash. And I have a higher regard for Rudy than most (Rudy is a star, and is mostly wasted on the Blazers).
What if they countered and said, "Replace Fernandez and Bayless for Aldridge" would you do it then? I don't think contracts work, since Aldridge is ppp, but with our cap genius at work, I'm sure we could work it out.
Disagree. We have who, Bayless and Rudy as cheap young talent? Assuming we aren't moving, or trying not to move one of our big 3? And then some euro prospects? They have Green, Harden and Westbrook thety could easily throw into the trade. They also have an 8 million dollar expiring contract in Etan Thomas. and 8 million in cap space. Etan and their cap space could completely take on Peja's contract from NO's. They also have a likely lottery pick they can throw in, as opposed to our mid to late 20s. And they can offer PHXs unprotected pick as well, whcih could be about where ours is. For NO, do you take Green, Westbrook, Harden, maybe Mullens or Ibaka possibly, as well as a lottery pick, and dumping Peja? Or Bayless, Rudy and Outlaw?
Peja still has a PPP? Hmm.. I wasn't aware. But, yeah. I think it would take at least one of the big three to land CP3. And I would assume taking on Peja (or any other albatross contract) would be required as well. I'd trade GO for Paul, seeing as how Paul is now a top 5 player (something I don't ever see GO being). A Paul-Roy-Aldridge trio would be a frightening sight for opposing teams.
Or what about Aldridge, Miller, Mile's terrible contract and Outlaw for CP3 and taking on Peja's terrible contract? I think that's far more valuable than that.
