Visited a San Antonio board yesterday and noticed a huge difference between them and Blazer fans. Whether you go here or Real GM, or Club Blazers, or iamatrailblazerfan.com....when our team is not doing well there is a lot of griping. Hell, I'm guilty myself. Anyway, the Spurs have gotten off to a horrible start. And those folks are used to a lot better. There was no fire the coach threads, Duncan is over the hill threads, Ginobellie sucks threads, or any of that kind of thing. There was a bit of concern expressed here and there, but nobody was willing to jump off a bridge over it. Are they putting something in the water down there to chill people out? Is it the weather up here? Must be something.
Very simple. They have won championships and witnessed many times the Spurs starting off slow and turning it up in January. They may have a little concern, but nothing like ours. Why? Well I can give a few ideas. 1.) Blazer fans have been "OH SO CLOSE" too many times. They've usually had some of the best teams in the league, yet they've never won the big game. A lot of Blazer fans, including myself want to witness a championship in their life-time. So there is more anxiety over every win or loss. 2.) Blazers went from a well respected franchise to the laughing stock of the NBA, then now an up and coming team of this decade. There are teams that used to be like that "Chicago" that had an opportunity to be SOOOOOO GOOOD, i.e. Chandler, Curry, Hinrich, Gordon, Deng all cheap draft selections, but used that talent to grab high paid over-the-hill all-stars. That blew up in their face and they had a terrible record after. I think Blazer fans are kinda in the middle. They don't want to be the next Chicago or NO that messed with their chemistry and ruined the team. 3.) The issues with Blake, Outlaw, and Webster have been around for years. Outlaw kinda gets a pass, since he was such a low pick, but Webster was #6, which definitely deserves some bitching at (Psst I am a Webster fan but understand why their is bitching). Blake is being called out because we have some younger players that deserve burn and they worry that Nate is ruining their growth by playing the "sure bet" over the "large reward" player.
The military-like discipline comes from being a military town with many of the posters in the military. The ESPN Spurs board has some negative threads.
They KNOW that Pop's system is a good one. He has proven to be a winner with his substitutions and play calling.
If the Spurs completely fell apart today and won 20 games for the rest of the year, this decade would still be vastly superior for them than anything the Blazers have ever experienced. It's hard to get that upset when you're a fan of one of the two greatest teams of an entire decade.
Here's just a few. One would think, but you should listen to USC fans right now... Same gene pool as the Lakers fanbase...
