Unemployed NBA players I may be a Daniel's homer, but I had interest with him when he was in Washington. I really like him when he was a Blazer. He wants a ring, but would he be interested in becoming a Blazer? He would be given serious "Starter-type" minutes in Portland, because of our lack of SF leadership.
We have no open roster spots, so it's not simply a matter of picking up somebody off the street. Having said that I'm not so sure Stack is anything other than a stopgap and probably not a very effective one at that. Antonio Daniels is a point guard no? I'm not going to hold my breath that any moves get made, it just doesn't feel like Pritchard's MO -- even with the team down to a single true small forward.
No, I had to toss him in. I really love his game. Always have cause he's such a aggressive defender at point. Just think of it KP. Hired Daniels. Use Blake, Webster and Miller to land a SF (Butler maybe). Then start Fernandez at PG/SG (defend the PG, be the SG on offense), Roy (Be the SG on defense and run point on O). Rotation: Fernandez/Daniels/Bayless Roy/Bayless Butler/Roy/Fernandez Aldridge/Howard Oden/Pryzbilla YAY!
We can always release Mills. Not like a PG so buried in the pecking order, he's never gonna crack our rotation.
I guess, but then why sign him and let Udoka walk -- Stack and he are probably about as useful as players at this point in their respective careers. Frankly why not just use players in a consolidation trade and get something for them instead of waiving them for a bandaid player who is unlikely to be able to contribute much.
It means exactly what it sounds like. As in my wife asking me, "Hey honey do you want to go shopping at the mall with me?" and my response is "meh"
So I'll throw this out there. When Batum moved into the lineup last year, it was because of injury. When he moved into the lineup, he was raw as hell, and pretty much had no knowledge of NBA ball when he came in. So why is it now that we are short on small forwards, that Dante Cunningham, in the same situation, but coming out of an excellent college program, with a better understanding of team defense, and a fairly sound offensive game, cannot get minutes? Are we really going to go searching for another SF, when we haven't even checked out the one on our bench to see what he can do? There is only one thing worse than making a trade you may not need. That is trading a guy who might just be a 2nd round steal, to another team before you know how good he is. I would at least like to see the dude get some minutes so we can make that decision for ourselves.
But it still doesn't seem to make any sense to waive players who can be used as filler in a trade. waiving them is just kind of short sighted ... especially when it comes to waiving them to make room for a really, really over-the-hill wing like Stack. I'd much rather KP was working the phones looking to consolidate what we have rather than waiving our fifteenth man to replace him with another guy who's about fifteenth man quality, but with not much left in the tank. Personally I think now is the time for KP to see what Blake's expiring deal combined with Webster or Rudy and maybe another throw in like Mills can get you in a trade, for an actual rotation or starting quality player.
Probably because Dante isn't actually a small forward. He played power forward in college and he doesn't have enough lateral quickness to guard most threes. That's not to say I don't think he can soak up some of Travis' backup power forward minutes. I think the other issue here is how little Martell is providing at small forward -- so little in fact that he can't even get more than 11 or 12 minutes in an overtime game at the end of a long road trip.
I was thinking more in the lines of Daniels. And using Miller, Blake and Webster to grab Butler. Then you don't have to release anyone, since it would be a 3-1. I just did a deal that used Blake, Webster and T. Outlaw for Butler. It works and we actually reduce payroll. It shows us with -3 wins though. But I don't know. Miller, Roy, Butler, Aldridge and Oden sounds like a solid starting line-up, especially if we have Fernandez and Bayless obviously getting more burn and the #1, #3 back ups, with Pryzbilla being the #2
You know I would agree or disagree with you, but we really haven't got to see him play at that position, so how do we know?
