Brandon Jennings, a rookie, for MVP voting?!??!?!?!?!?!?!? Let's just say. He keeps it up. Hypothetically. Brandon fucking Jennings wins the MVP. He keeps this up. He is a rookie, averaging 30 a game and takes his team to the ECF. What then, do we say of Brandon Jennings? Wow!!!!!!!!! http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/awards?page=awards-091117 I am a little tipsy right now, but just seeing his name on the MVP top 10 blows my mind!!! Thoughts?
Oden's in the top 5 for DPOY. BJ that good? I believe it. LeBron may be the greatest player now, but he's not really a Jordan/Kobe-type player so all those comparisons are void. Jennings, however...
I'm more blown away that Brandon is in the top 10 of this list right now. His PER is down a chunk from last year (iirc) and he is not playing @ even 2nd team All-NBA level yet, let alone be thought of in the (bloated) MVP race.
I believe Brandons PER last year was 24 or something, and this year he's 19.9. I can't find a link to last years PER, but I swear he was behind only Kobe and Wade for SG's (LeBron if you count him too). Of course, it's early in the season and he's playing out of position.
You're right. Brandon finished a few hundreths behind Kobe's PER, but Wade and Lebron were otherworldly with PERs at or near 30
I think we put Playless on him, shadow him like a second skin, allow Playless to get his 6 fouls - (so be it) and shut Jennings down. Spell Playless with Miller, when needed. Have Blake manage the water bottle for the guys (Jerryd and Andre) and waive a pom-pom every now and then!
A little depressing that with our vaunted depth, no Blazer candidates for 6th man of the year right now. I'd take Przybilla over a couple of the guys mentioned. But then they never really go with defensive rebounders/shot blockers in this category. I'd love to see more kids go overseas like Jennings did instead of wasting a year in college. It's probably a lot better for the psychology of the young player to not be "the man" and instead being forced to find a way to fit in. And I like to see players actually paid for their work, instead of being used by the NCAA. I guess I'd feel different if I followed college hoops, but oh well. Oden might have been better served going to Europe for a year. Get him out of the hype and the pressure and let him focus on developing his game against mature men.
Deploy the old "Box & One" defense! Bayless chases Jennings around like a dog - and the four corners are defended by Roy / Miller at the top and LMA / Oden down low.
I'm gonna echo Mook here, I know it's not the flashy 6th man, and usually the winner is just whoever has the most points off the bench. But Joel definitely deserves some recognition for that award. He's got 7.6 rebounds a game, and 1.5 blocks a game right now. He's just slightly above more rebounds per game than garnett is, and he's doing that in 19 minutes a night.
Huh?!??! You guys know Brandon Jennings is a rookie, right? So, he cannot have a PER for last year. lmfao
I see the confusion. Sorry, I meant Brandon Roy. I didn't think of the fact that the player you were originally talking about was also named Brandon.
I was going off on how Brandon Roy is included in the list, but I didn't think he deserved it. I had hoped that the "2nd team all NBA" would've been enough information to let people realize I had changed to Brandon Roy.
