I don't care if he made that three at the end or not, Steve Blake is the equivalent of nothing; he brings nothing to the team but turn-over’s, mediocre plays, and wasted minutes. This team will never win anything with him playing major minutes. I hate how Nate and the rest of this franchise think he's something he's not! Even our Broadcasters give him too much credit, WTF!?
Hilarious comment from BlazersEdge: http://www.blazersedge.com/2009/11/18/1163902/gameday-open-thread-pistons-vs#25821536
The thread might be predictable but it's true and since I've never got to vent my frustrations on how painful it is to watch this below average player I feel this is the best place as any. He doesn't need to play less, he needs to not play at all. Bayless has the potential to be an above average player at least, Blake will NEVER be anything other than a mediocre stop gap player. He makes a big three once every five games but we wouldn't need it if he wasn't playing and making mistakes that force us to need one of those shots (like throwing the ball to the pistons in the posession before his "Big Three" tonight). It's sad that Bayless has to sit behind this looser!
He and the coach both need to go. This team has no edge. They play with no fire. What happened tonight was udder asinine.
BLAKE needs to play 12 min a game.He literally almost gave the game away. I also cannot think of one reason why he is on the floor. Our broadcast team is his big cheerleaders which also makes no sense. WTF is Right!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll give Detroit's trapping, pressing defense a little credit here, but some of those dribbles into the lane at the end where he either hoisted bad shots or turned it over were pretty painful. All I can say is that he mildly redeemed himself by hitting his foul shots and nailing that second chance 3 pointer. But there was something pretty interesting at play at the end of the game. Brandon in that high pick and roll or the 1-4 flat can absolutely not have Miller in the corner on the ballside. Detroit doubled Brandon every time and left Miller completely alone. That doesn't mean they can't play together at the end of close games, but Nate is going to have to adjust that play, bench Miller or come up with something completely different. My guess is that Miller gets moved before the deadline, he can't continue to play this spot up shooting role that Nate tries to force him into. I'm not exactly enamored with Blake at the end of games because of his tendency to try and do too much, but he does at least present the threat of hitting an outside shot.
As usual, everyone blames Blake. However, he was not on the court at the start of the 4th, when that Blazer unit went to sleep and allowed Detroit to gain momentum. By the time Blake came in, it was too late. imo, Nate should have brought Roy back with Blake - not when all hell broke lose. Blake did have a couple of bad TOs, but hit the timely 3 when they needed it. And he didn't choke on the FT line either. You also have to credit Detroit with a great pressing defense along with timely shots.
Blake is not the problem. Nate is. Nate is the one who is playing him despite Blake's obvious negative impact on this team and its players. If this team had a championship caliber coach Blake would be a good 12-20 minute a game player or would be on another team.
Blake was not bad tonight. Yes, he had a couple of BAD turnovers down the stretch... but he shot the ball well. He took the ball to the basket a couple of times (drawing a shooting foul and having another easy layup, and possibly getting fouled another time when he took it to the hole. Too many minutes? Maybe. But if he shoots 50% from the field I don't think I'll be complaining most of the time. Ed O.
