not in the religious sense. again, the purpose of these ads typically is to undermine social/psychological roadblocks - to let poeple who are already having atheistic thoughts/reasoning know that there's nothing wrong with it/them.
so you don't think telling someone "You know you're going to burn in hell for eternity" isn't insulting?
If that's the case, then this Atheist ad should be highly irritating to an agnostic as well. Of course, since I'm truly agnostic, neither bother me at all. I do have to laugh at the "Atheist" social group organizing to the point that they place public ads proclaiming their own (non-)beliefs. It's so ironic. I really do laugh at it.
There's a big difference in what is being said, though. Christians are telling me that I am going to endure eternal suffering because I am living a life in sin. Atheists are telling me that if I don't believe in God, there's nothing wrong with that. I don't think it's ironic. Personally, though, I find both things sort of irritating simply because people should be smart enough not to be swayed in their religious beliefs from a fucking bus ad or billboard.
That religious broadcasts are irritating? No, I didn't. Why would I? edit: at least, not to any Muslims. The calls to prayer at ungodly hours of the night were worse than a thousand televangelists.
I mean cos really, I never noticed that. Things I've also never noticed: There's snow on top of mountains. It's hot in the summer. Christmas comes but once a year. Seriously.
I too find shiny pictures to be an effective way to deflect criticism and divert attention. Meanwhile, I'll continue to laugh at "Atheists" using "Theist" tactics to spread their word.
Nice ass. No but since you didn't respond to my post, let me ask you a question. Do the words "Are you good without God? Millions are." come off as preaching? To me, it looks like a reaction to the still common mindset that atheists can't be trusted in certain scenarios because they aren't moral.
Yes, it comes off as preaching to me. Plus, after your post, I can now view it as a preaching of "immorality", although I don't view theists or atheists to be any more moral than the other. Atheism seems to be belief in a non-belief. It's the pretzel of religions.
I'm trying to get you to notice that you enjoy studying a culture that is highly religious yet apparently despise the religious in your own culture.
