Yeah. That's what playing out of position will do to you. I know people harp on the idea that Blake is a SG that plays PG because he is small - but that's just wrong. Blake is not a great PG - but he is a much better player as a PG than as a SG. The Miller acquisition has taken Roy and Blake out of position - and so far, the hoped for improvement in Greg and LMA's offensive games is not there. This team needs to completely change it's playing style offensively - or re-think the Miller acquisition.
Imagine some of the threads that will occur when Blake has a bad game. Brandon Roy(notes) and LaMarcus Aldridge(notes) each had 20 points and Blake scored 17 for the Blazers, home after a 4-1 road trip. Portland has won eight of 10 to improve to 9-4, its best record after 13 games since opening 11-2 in 1999-2000.
4 Quarter Transcripts (WOW) This is everything Blake did in the last 4.5 minutes of the game, good or bad. 04:51 Blake Driving Reverse Layup Shot: Missed 04:40 Blake Turnover : Lost Ball (2 TO) Steal:Stuckey (1 ST) 03:58 Blake Foul : Personal (2 PF) 01:07 Blake Turnover : Bad Pass (3 TO) Steal:Summers (1 ST) 00:41.9 Blake 3pt Shot: Missed 00:40.9 Blake Rebound (Off:1 Def:2) 00:25.9 [POR 81-77] Blake 3pt Shot: Made (15 PTS) Assist: Aldridge (2 AST) 00:10.0 [POR 84-81] Blake Free Throw 1 of 2 (16 PTS) 00:10.0 [POR 85-81] Blake Free Throw 2 of 2 (17 PTS) To say that Blake was the reason we won the game last night is ludicrous. Yes, the three was timely, but for the 2.5 minutes before, he was helping Detroit get back into this game. Now you can say Blake is a good role player, but look at the transcripts and it looks like he was the Superstar on the team. He, by far, had the most shot attempts and involvement in the game.
Whoops my bad. Still trying to get used to this format guys. Remember I am a O-live veteran. Used to constantly posting new threads.
Fuck me. I knew it was bad. I didn't know it was this bad. If you widen out the parameters a little bit to allow people who suck slightly less, you get this. Interesting to see Hinrich on this list. Funny to see the 2004 version of Derek Anderson on the list--I knew there was somebody Blake has reminded me of this year. If only Blake were as good as Derek Anderson.
Just 2 games behind that team.. that's pretty good. We didn't lose fourth game until Game 18 that year, so we need to win five more in a row to match that 59-win pace! And I think it's really possible.
This is a really fun game. Let's take a look at Andre Miller and his NBA comparisons based on FG%, 3 pt%, and A/PG for this season. http://www.basketball-reference.com...t=mp_per_g&c4comp=gt&c4val=25&order_by=season
Very good post and sums up Blake's night.... Congrats to him, I guess? He made a crucial 3pt shot after a series of idiotic decisions\shots... Surely POR could do better....having Rudy Fernandez in at the end of the game for starters...well, that is if you are actually going to USE HIM for more than a a guy standing at the 3pt line waiting for a Roy bail out pass....that is pretty much all that Blake is good for out there.... Wow what a stud!
Miller seems to be having a "unique" season as well. http://www.basketball-reference.com...t=mp_per_g&c4comp=gt&c4val=28&order_by=season
I got a great idea. Trade Blake and Miller for a damn SF that can give us solid minutes and Move Fernandez at SG. Have Roy play his "Roy Ball" at PG on the offensive end, then use Fernandez to guard the PG. Have Bayless as the back-up guard, Webster to get the towels for the players and be done with it. Regardless of the "PER" stats, I just don't like the 3 guard line-up anymore. Yes we are winning, but to what cost? Will Roy be able to constantly battle other bigger SFs, only to fizzle in the later part of the season? Give us a SF that deserves to start, move Roy to his natural position and have Fernandez or Bayless be the PG defender and SG on offense. EDIT: I would like to note that I was once a strong supporter of Roy being a SF. I can admit when I'm wrong.
Save Charlotte some money and go after Diaw. We'd get a solid passer/defender/shooter with a very high IQ who can play 3/4 effectively. Leaves us in a hole at PG but Diaw's a good enough distributor I think you could play Roy some at 1 (which he nearly does already), play Bayless some, and he'd work great with Miller. Not to mention I think Batum would be thrilled.
I thought about that. Trade for Monta and move Roy to point guard so he can dominate the ball to his hearts content.
I can't see a team doing two deals in the middle of the season. I think any chance of landing someone in Charlotte got smashed with their deal with Golden State.
The bottom-line is that both Miller and Blake are playing like a hot mess. Courtney Lee is Miller's comparison this year.
