Doh . . . ironically I'm giving Reep a hard time about not knowing what he is talking about (in a fun way) and it is me who is absolutely clueless. I think the freudian slip was when i accuse some poster of not knowing what they are talking about, for some starnge reason your user name pops into my head. But seriously, aren't you in the Bay Area, which is probably where the mistake comes from.
yeah what have I ever been proven right on I'll be biking over the Golden Gate bridge in a couple of hours STOMP
i don't think we have alot of "fair weather" fans in here, bipolar yes but not fair weather. a fair weather fan is someone who supports a team only when it is winning and moves on to another team when the first one starts losing. we have alot of posters on here with alot of passion for the blazers and it manifests itself in some irrational thoughts. add on the annonymous nature of message boards and this is what you get.
At least KP would not have thrown the team under the bus last year and we would have made the playoffs. Oh, wait...
I don't think a trade is neccesarily needed. The existing lineup could be used much differently, and more effective IMO. But I am always up for a multiple average player trade for a single gifted player trade. Gifted players are rare. Journeyman are a dime a dozen and can be replaced off of the free agent list pretty quickly.
I'm going to the County Fair, whether or not Mom grounds me for playing D&D in HCP's basement until all hours of the night.
I hate fair weather fans too... but they are the people who bailed on the team when they sucked. Not the people who stuck around through the hard times and have a few complaints now. I was in the Rose Garden back in 2003, 2004, and 2005. There were so many empty seats, we looked like the Bobcats or the Grizzlies. We traded sheed and a lot of people said they would come back... they didn't. There's plenty of fair weather fans in this city, but most of them aren't on this forum.
Wow great post, that should have been /Thread there. That sums up my relationship with the Blazers entirely. +1
And then pomptly got upset in the first round because we didn't have the experience. He was affraid to trade guys like Blake and Outlaw, and look where that has gotten us? He decided not to use Raef's contract and save all of that cap space for a PG that according to many doesn't help the team.
Fans who blindly follow, no matter what, are just as bad IMO. They're akin to people who blindly follow their government because it's "Patriotic" Sheep/Lemmings. Look at the overall picture. I get the whole team spirit thing, but there comes a time when, for self respect, you shouldn't cheer on a turd. Why cheer on mediocrity or bad coaching/bad play?
Should be pointed out that they did go 4-1 on a 5 games in 8 days road trip last year (Nov 30 - Dec 7). They also went 3-2 on a 5 in 7 between Mar 15 - Mar 21, one of the losses being in OT @ Cleveland without Aldridge & Batum. Actually they seem to do well on the long trips--they were a cumulative 15-8 on 4 or 5 game trips last year. It was the shorter jaunts that did them in.
Hmm, well in my opinion you got it half right. I think the first half, where you said a fair-weather fan is a fan that only supports the team when they are losing, is correct. But I believe that the second part, where they move onto another team that is winning, constitutes as more of a bandwagon fan. Either way...
