I was in favor of TARP. There's a difference between TARP and the stimulus package. The problem with TARP was that the bankers are smarter than the politicians. They're going to figure out a way to maximize their take. However, the actions of the Congress and the previous two administrations (Clinton's & GW Bush's) created entities that were too big to fail. At that point, we had no choice. Re-enact Glass-Steagall. Break up some of the mega-banks. Commerical banking should be a quiet business where there are thousands of competitors. Investment banking should be a dynamic business where they explode, crash and reform all the time. You should never give a risk-loving investment bank the balance sheet of a commercial bank. You're just asking for trouble.
