Well, what do you guys think? I think it is very confusing because tons of people think he is overrated and alot of other people think he is underrated.I was reading my Sports Illustrated from a while back and in the SI Players' section he was 2nd behind Stephon Marbury in the "Most Overrated Player" poll. And it got me thinking. He is always the starting Center for the West in the ASG. He has been the most voted player for 3 years now. Some people think he is overrated because of that. But on the flip side, some people think he is underrated because others call him slow, unco-ordinated and dont give him any respect at all for what he has done.Well, what do you think? Thoughts?

I read an article about him and why he's been playing poorly compared to what he should be doing in the league. Basically it shows how much <Censored> he had to go through, and what he's currently going through. His home team requires him to play with them for the summer, so basically he works all year round - starting next year he doesnt tho (for the first time) - he also had something wrong with his foot that hurt him so bad that it truely did affect his play - he got that fixed - thats why he was playing so well at the end of the season - thannnn he broke his foot. He is an unlucky guy - but next season he should be putting up really good numbers - so therefore I think he is underrated just because not many people know his story.

Globally, he is overrated (especially by the Chinese) but I think here in America he is rated properly. This year he had a very good year despite the injuries and the problems the Houston Rockets had as a team. If he can continue to grow as a player mentally and physically he'll be the best center in the game. Which, as sad as it is, he isn't too far off of right now.

I think he is rated just fine. He is widely regarded as one of the top centers in the game, who is just coming into his own and a 20 and 10 threat. Now tell me where people under/overrate him?

He is underrated because people criticize him for not playing like Shaq. He is also on a horrible team right now with Mcgrady not playing. They say he is soft which I think he hasn't shown any of that this year though he will never be Shaq.

He didn't deserve as many All-Star votes as he received, but he's really exploded since the All-Star Break.

I think he is overated. Basically every year he is leading in AS votes, because 4278903575320967249086754098 people in China vote for him, not because of his skill, but more because he is a god there. He is not that good, he is a sally IMO.

Which is why I said he is overrated globally, but not really in the American mindset.

Most likely Yao Ming and since you want to play the race card, Dirk Nowitzki is being held back in votes because he's German. :rolleyes:And seeing as he's the best center in the West, I don't see how that's a issue. His only competition is probably Camby, who dropped off and has had injury problems.

I wouldn't call him overrated. He is globally overrated like Wolf said but thats because China. I would rate him neither. Hes turning to be one of the best Centers right now if not the best. He'll be scary when he bulks up.

I'm not going to believe it's only China voting for him.

He's a good center but he can never be a centerpiece of a team

If I'm not mistaken, Allen Iverson's jersey sold more than Yao Ming's in China...
