    Hello darkness, my old friend
There are different levels of community. A lot of the people who frequent the Blazers forum consider themselves a "community." We like to discuss things with those people because we know them and are familiar with them. To be perfectly honest, what's different about anyone else on S2 as compared with anyone else on the Internet? That is to say, why should people in this community have greater desire to talk to people they don't know on S2 as opposed to people they don't know on other sites? For an individual who strays here and has no other "connections," they may mix first with the general S2 population and become familiar with them and then want to talk about all sorts of subjects with those people. That's just not how it happened with many here...we came here with established connections. There's a time investment in getting to know a new group of people (the "wider S2 population") and not everyone wants to do that, if they already have a ready-made community.

I'm not saying Blazers fans should or shouldn't mix with the wider S2 population. Several years ago, on BBB, I was pretty active site-wide. I'm not active site-wide here because A. I have a lot less time and B. there's a much smaller group once you leave this forum. But I'm certainly not against mixing with the wider community...I simply don't see that it's bad if people don't.

i still fail to see how blazer fans posting in the blazer ot section changed ANYthing for the people who were already here. if anything it gave them even one MORE section to post in.

Don't you understand? If there is traffic being stolen from the OT forum this takes money from Denny and gives it directly to Ed O. I also think that Shooter and Maxiep benefit monetarily from the amount of OT posts in the Blazers subforum. Pretty soon S2 will be in all-out war and it will be time to hit the mattresses. Is Ed O kicking back enough of his cut to Denny? Will another accident befall an S2 poster? I am a very superstitious man. Minstrel is more like Fredo, who is too busy keeping his drunk wife in line to be trusted with any of the family business. Watch out Ed O. Minstrel will disappoint you. I have the rowboat ready when needed.

Exactly. I still don't understand. They posted in the general OT area. New Blazer fans joined. Did not post there. Thus, NJ fans left because new members did not post in their OT area? OK.

I think the charitable way to put it would be that some of the prior guys felt we should do more to push reluctant Blazers fans into the general forum structure, and then felt it was unfairly catering to them to allow them to do their own thing.

It didn't make much sense to me. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink. As Minstrel said, folks came here with their existing connections and preferences. I'm confident that over time, folks will become more engaged in the rest of the site. But I, and I think everyone else here, feels it ought to be an organic thing. Encouraging and making it easier for folks to post in other forums = good. Pushing people, telling people what to do, and generally acting belligerent about how other people choose to post = bad.

Gotcha. Thanks. I think we should be unfairly catered towards. No real reason.

Long time members felt that it was better if S2 worked as a community not as each forum being it's own non-interactive entity. The OT forum was vital to encouraging interaction. Once the Blazer OT forum was made, there was very little chance they were going to socialize with the rest of the forum (which is still true).

However at this point, a lot of members left/became inactive after, so mingling doesn't matter much anyway at this point.

Bottom line: segregation was a step backward in a lot of member's eyes. I still think Ghoti summed it up well:

Part of it probably is, I just felt S2 is a shell of it's former self.

Instead of just the same old, "Democrats spin the media so much", "Fox News is so bullshit", "My take on the latest Conservative spin", "omg there is balloon boy"

The old OT seemed to have some real interesting content and creative threads from members, people sharing about their life like TheBeef, MTwoOne, Mastershake, Chutney, GMJigga, etc. Denny used to make some interesting threads in the OT that got some insightful discussion.

RipCityTwo is the "new and improved" S2.

Whatever though, what is done is done. So be it.

I guess we didn't troll other boards enough? Perhaps we need a paradigm shift to address what stimulates intellectual debate? If an internet forum fell down in the woods, would it make a sound?

There was almost no chance of that happening, either way. Without a Blazers OT we probably would have found another board that WOULD have a Blazers OT area.

ghoti's thoughts as to what "would do the Blazers forum a world of good" simply don't matter to many of us... that sort of patriarchal approach to users is something that I find, personally, sort of offensive.

i think the problem here for people not interested in posting about the blazers is that the new posts section is generally almost completely full of blazers threads making it harder to navigate between all the different forums that could have content they are interested in.

rocketeer has a very good point, but it's up to members like myself and other forum mods to try and balance this out. I used to angry at blazer fans, but now, they cool.

We have discussed technological solutions to this in the past, and I agree that it can be a bit of a barrier to non-Blazers fans who might see this as ONLY a Blazers' site, when it has the capabilities of being so much more, whether you follow the Blazers (or even the NBA) or not.

whether it is in the blazer ot section, or the appropriate s2 equivalent, the information is the same either way. now if you are saying it is annoying to see so many blazer threads..., i will concede that there are many times when a new thread isnt needed.

Can someone pencil me in for the next debate about why you all left bbf, or why bbf sucks, or the mods here rule, or how Ed O is so handsome that he has to beat off.

I take part of this back actually, one poster annoys the fuck out of me. He's like on the opposite end of the coolness spectrum from drexlersdad. DD is the man.
