Just showing his PER doesn't immediately make him a bad player. Not saying his defense is at that level, but bruce Bowen consistently had an awful PER, but was an integral part of championship teams. I am not denouncing PER as a whole, but for some specific role players, it's just not auseful tool to evaluate them.
If Ime's defense was as good as this - SAS would not have elected not to renew him for pretty much the minimum. These are the guys that appreciated Bowen because his defense was so good. All of a sudden they do not appreciate it down there? The people at SAS have a pretty good track record about their role players, they bring them when they are right, they use them as they should - and they do not stick with them when they are pretty much done. Ime is a nice guy and I would have loved to see him on the team because he is a local kid and had nice history here - but let's face it - taking a flier on Mills was the right thing to do from a risk/reward standpoint - because it is not going to be hard to find someone to give you Ime's production for cheap. Heck, I am again going to the idea that if you absolutely need to get someone that gives you Ime's overall production for 10 minutes a game, you just play Dante out of position. He might not be as good a defender - but he is a much better offensive player. Overall, you are not going to lose nothing.
