Re: DMN: Harris says he's ready for playoffs MAVERICKS NOTESHarris says he's ready for playoffsBy MERCEDES MAYERSTAR-TELEGRAM STAFF WRITERDALLAS - Guard Devin Harris said with a smile Friday that his ongoing struggle with his left quadriceps injury might soon be over. He's "pretty sure" he'll be able to play in the Mavericks' playoff opener against the Memphis Grizzlies at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at American Airlines Center.Harris practiced Friday and said it went well. He said his playing time Sunday will probably be at a minimum, depending on how much coach Avery Johnson wants him to play."I did most of the stuff and made sure I didn't go too hard," Harris said. "In some of the drills [Johnson] had to tell me to slow down, but everything felt great. No setbacks or anything like that. I can still get to the rim. That's all that counts."Johnson is waiting "to see what happens with his recovery and see if he can make it though another practice."Lessons learnedAlthough the first-round series is a best-of-seven, Dirk Nowitzki was quick to point out that Game 1 is important."We don't want to get down on our home court and give it up ever again," Nowitzki said, referring to the 0-2 start the Mavs gave up at home last season against Houston in the first round of the playoffs."That was a position you never want to be in again."Everyone from then-rookie coach Avery Johnson to the All-Star Nowitzki learned something from last year's postseason. But finally experiencing it might have provided the biggest lesson of all."It'll be a whole different ball game," guard Jason Terry said. "There won't be any feeling-out process. It's a tough fight. You can't just come into a game and think you're going to show up and win."In good companyDirk Nowitzki finished the regular season averaging 26.6 points a game and shooting 90.1 percent from the free-throw line.Only two other players, Larry Bird and Rick Barry, have averaged more than 26 points and 90 percent or better from the foul line in NBA history."That's great, 90 percent is something I've always wanted to accomplish from the free-throw line," Nowitzki said. "The company I'm in with Larry Legend is great to be around. Hopefully I can make them in the playoffs, too."BrieflyJosh Howard did not practice Friday because of a sore lower back but is expected to practice today.Darrell Armstrong also didn't practice Friday after spraining his ankle Wednesday, but he should practice today.
Re: DMN: Harris says he's ready for playoffs I hope so, it would be helpful to have him, I just hope he doesn't rush it as we need him more against the Spurs than the Grizz.
Re: DMN: Harris says he's ready for playoffs We need him to guard Bobby Jackson who is capable of hitting a lot of 3's. Armstrong is still injured and who knows if he is able to play today.
Re: DMN: Harris says he's ready for playoffs I'm saying I'll take him missing the Grizz series, especially if he needs time to recover.
Re: DMN: Harris says he's ready for playoffs Not to be down on Dallas but I can see the Grizzlies scary defense. They are the best defensive team in the league and Dallas has no answer for Pau. This is going 7 and if Howard is out than the Grizzlies win.
Re: DMN: Harris says he's ready for playoffs Umm, Dirk would have to go down for this series to go 7, and the Mavs would still win it.It's all good though, Howard and Devin both played.
Re: DMN: Harris says he's ready for playoffs Did you guys notice Howard didn't even play that much time?I guess I could kind-of expect it, but yeah, maybe he should play only around 20-25 minutes in a quicker game like this.

Marquis Daniels was playing damn good also. It makes no sense to say that he shouldnt play in a quicker game. The Grizzilies have one of the best defenses in the league. The Mavericks want to speed the game up. They want to make Memphis try to out score them. They only have 2 legit go to scorers in Gasol on Miller. Mavericks want to speed the game up. They want to run on every oppurtunity. Memphis is the one that wants to slow down the game.

Avery got on him a little in the press conference saying Howard did not play well. He looked fine otherwise, just needs to learn not to pick up dumb fouls.
Re: DMN: Harris says he's ready for playoffs Did anyone notice who was better between Daniels and Stackhouse? I couldn't tell. Could you tell me rok?

I couldn't tell. Could you tell me rok?</div>I would say Daniels by far. Stackhouse had 14 points on 3-11 shooting and 7-9 from the FT line. Had 1 rebound and 1 assist and 2 turnovers in 33 minutes. Daniels had 13 on 6-9 shooting and 1-1 from the line. He also had 3 rebounds 3 assists and 2 steals, no turnovers in 26 minutes. Both played pretty good, but Daniels was more effecient. I also think Daniels played better defense and had a lot of deflections and stuff like that. I hope both play like this the rest the way. Also, i think Harris looked pretty good considering he hasnt played in a while. Of course he did mess up a few times and missed all his shots, but i think he missed them because of rust, not because of forcing them. Hopefully he'll improve during the series and play really good against the Spurs.

Could you tell me rok?</div>Why are trying to create something? Both played well imo, Daniels played better, but what's it matter when both did their thing and contributed especially with Howard in foul trouble. We don't need a who did better every game now do we? How about we hope both play well instead of you trying to create a stupid competition among teammates.
Re: DMN: Harris says he's ready for playoffs Well you keep downplaying Daniels' importance to the team so I just reminding you what Daniels can do.
Re: DMN: Harris says he's ready for playoffs <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Well you keep downplaying Daniels' importance to the team so I just reminding you what Daniels can do.</div>Geez your a hard head, I said he's not as important as our top 4-5 guys and he isn't. Also, you weren't saying how important he was, you were trying to say he did better then Stackhouse. So don't change your words around. You tried to turn it into a stupid Daniels is great, Stack is not debate again. When both players did great, Daniels doing better, bottom line both contributed in their roles. Their still lower on the totem pole on importance.Oh and I don't need a reminder by you on Daniels 24/7. I know you like him more then others, I could care less.
Re: DMN: Harris says he's ready for playoffs ^Agreed, ulike you Mavsfan, I like all the Mavs players, I don't prop any more up than the others. Both Stack and Daniels are great players for us, and IF Daniels can play great all playoffs long, than that's even better for us and our chances.
Re: DMN: Harris says he's ready for playoffs I wouldn't consider 3-11 great. Rok is so quick to freak out about things. Yeah I think Daniels is better than Stackhouse and a lot of mavs fans agree with me. What's the problem with that? Games like this and Daniels having more success in the playoffs stat wise than Stackhouse is just another reason. They both are getting playing time now but if I had to choose I would go with Daniels. Hopefully Avery continues playing this 9 man rotation throughout the playoffs.
Re: DMN: Harris says he's ready for playoffs They both are very important to us, and let me guess, you think he should play before Griffin too right?Of course not. Marquis doing great in the playoffs will help our chances greatly, but we don't need him to play well. We'd be better if Stack played better, and considering he can go off in any game, even though he hasn't been playing that well lately, is an extra weapon we have.

No other Mavs fans continually brings up how great Daniels is to Stack except you. Also, if freaking out means telling you what you said was wrong, then so be it. Read what you wrote then read my reply. Stack and Daniels are in the same boat as in importance, any production from them is great, but their still not top 5 in importance when their are other players on this team that are. To borrow words from you, quit freaking out about Daniels, I for one have no bias against either Stack/Daniels and want both to do well, unlike you who is quick to point out a bad game from Stack and good one from Daniels. Oh and who used great for Stack, I said he did well, he got to the line 9 times, passed the ball, he's not a good shooter and his low fg should be expected but he did other things in the game that helped.
Re: DMN: Harris says he's ready for playoffs Stack was 7-9 from the free throw line. So to add that to his 3-11 it would be like 6-15 which still isn't good. I just get upset when he jacks up shots and has poor shot selection. Dallas was lucky Daniels was on. Oh and I don't get what Marvinmartian saying Stackhouse having a good game is more important than Daniels having a good game. What's the logic there? I just don't understand someone shooting that poorly is even getting minutes. If you are going to shoot a lot at least shoot a decent percentage. I do realize now that Griffin starting is fine since he plays well with the starters. Not that Daniels wouldn't though but having Daniels come off the bench makes the bench even stronger.

You can't just assume we won't. With your first sentence on his shooting, just accept Stack for he is, this is such a broken record. Your bitching won't make him stop. And I told you Stack would get playing time in the playoffs, when you said he wouldn't. Despite his flaws, he's going to play minutes, so shut up about it.
