It really annoys me how long the NBA playoffs are. There are too many off-days before games and they just made the 1st series 2 more games a while ago. I think it's too long. I hate having to wait 3 days for my team to play again. It sucks. Why don't they make it so they only rest 1 day before each game and 2 when they go to a different arena instead of 2 days and 3 days rest. The NBA playoffs take more time than the other sports and it's boring when the 1st round takes 2-3 weeks. I'm going to miss Game 6 and Game 7 of the Finals because of the playoffs being this long.
It is 1 round too long. Either cut down the number of teams to 4 for each conference, or make 1st round best of 3, 2nd round best of 5, then rest best of 7. Or, do it liks NCAA, and make it single game elimination (and last game could be best of 7).
I don't like really short series like that but making it a best of 5 could be good. Or how about this, make it more like the AFL and have like 12 teams and put them all together instead of seperating East and West. 4 less teams also gets rid of the crappy playoff teams that are their right now, and I think that way, if they do the seeding right, it will be better.
I was actually going to make a thread on this. They definitely need to change the first round back to a best of 5 game series.
They don't need to shorten the playoffs, they need to shorten the regular season.I think best of 7 in the first round is fine. But it does stretch the end of the season on a bit. Cut the regular season by 10 games and it will be shorter and make all of us happy.
The first round of the playoffs just seems like an extension to the regular season to me, but even so I think that the best of seven format is fine. It is better than having a best of five, and having a lot more potential "lucky" series wins. It is designed to make sure the better team wins.

First round is usually most exciting. There are some cases where confrence finals are really good, but the semi's, and most of the time the Finals, are nothing to go home and cheer about. That is why the NCAA tournament is so good and the first round is so good....lots of tight matchups, it is fresh in people's minds, and no one is really tired or beaten down yet.
i love watching basketball so the length doesn't bother me. there are games on every day. playoff basketball is awesome. i agree tho that the first series should be 5 games again.
the playoffs are long but that's good i guess. the more seats they can fill the better it is for the nba financially.however i think they shouldn't have only the playoffs. they should have a huge tournament like the NCAA do w/ march madness. a huge bracket tournament w/ ALL nba teams. that would be awesome. it should be like a pre-qual to the playoffs. single-elimination. all on one game. awesome.
Interesting idea regularguy...Have a shortened regular season, then have a single-elimination tourney to see who would actually make the playoffs, and then have the playoffs... we all know the NBA won't go for it though.
I don't like that idea, regularguy. It seems kind of dumb to me. I like the way it is sort of but how about this: They combine the West and East playoff teams and make it a big 16 team tourney. And they do the seedings the right way.... Then it's single elimination until it's the Final Four and they do a 5 game series and the championship could be a 7 game one.But, like someone else said, the longer the playoffs are the better it is for the NBA financially so I understand why it's done this way.
Seems fine to me the way it is. I liked the best of 5 in the first round though, but the extra games means more mullah.
theres nothing wrong with more basketball, i like it, it also gives teams more of a chance to come back and win a series.
