Greg Oden Leads the NBA in FG%, but... hasn't lead his team in FGA once in the 19 games they've played this season. is 5th on his team at 7.4 FGA/G in spite of leading the team in PTS/FGA at 1.58 (second best is 1.33). is 6th on his team in USG% in spite of being 2nd in the league in TS% (and first on his team by a wide margin). is 8th on his team in FGA/36 min. Seriously, why in god's name is Oden NOT averaging at least 10 FGA/G? And don't say foul trouble. He's 8th on his team in FGA/36 at 10.8. Even if he was foul free and averaging 32 MPG he'd only be getting 9.6 FGA/G. His season high is 11 FGA and he's only had 10, or more, FGA 4 times in 19 games. He's also had only 4 games out of 19 where he's shot less than 0.500 from the field - yet he doesn't get more touches. Unfathomable. BNM
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... The biggest reason, I think, is they can't get him the ball. He usually gets doubled and has to pass out. Also, the team does a terrible job at getting him easy looks. Dump off passes, alley-oops, etc. Another is minutes. Can't stay on the court enough. His FG% would probably go down if he shot more too. (Although not that much, I think)
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... Roy and LA are too selfish and need their shots. Roy rarely passes the ball to Oden. Rudy and Miller love feeding the ball to Oden.
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... The answer is simple, there's just no offensive game plan. We take what we can get but we have no priority on the floor. It's usually a Roy and Aldridge game with everyone else on the outside looking in. There's just no game plan on the offensive end. No leadership from the coach to tell the players what to do and where to go on the floor.
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... Did you not see the bolded part where he is 8th on the team in FGA/36 minutes? BNM
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... I totally agree with you For a big man in the middle to get more touches, you have to have a point guard who is not only good at the pick and roll but one who will feed the post at the start of the offence.....exactly what Coach Nate has been telling the media and fans from day one...so who will feed the post....ANDRE MILLER....when does steve blake ever feed the post...watch him closely. If we persistently start with Greg as the first option...besides Greg and Andre and occ Bayless...do we even have any other low post presence/?????? NO...even Aldridge doesn't realize that he is way more effective if he penetrates the paint early in a game....but instead he wants to shoot fade away 16 footers....WHY? with all the all star caliber money we just paid him...if he keeps playing the way he has, there is no chance for an all star nod for the L=Train this year!!!! THIS TEAM WILL GO ONLY AS FAR AS ODEN WILL TAKE US....YES BRANDON WILL GET HIS, BUT IF ODEN PLAYS WELL, THE SKY IS THE LIMIT FOR THIS TEAM
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... That's kind of deceiving. 4 of the players ahead of him shouldn't count. Bayless and Cunningham have barely played this season, Miller is only averaging .3 more shots than him (but should be taking less, his jumpers, oh god), Outlaw is injured now, and we know how much he likes to shoot. That leaves Webster, Aldridge, and Roy. I would agree that that's part of the reason, but the main one is that they can't get him the ball.
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... There you go, MM! Proof that Nate doesn't always have his arms crossed.
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... I have said this before. Guys look right at him when he is all alone under the hoop, and don't throw him the pass. There have been many times I have been screaming at Steve Blaket o pass him the ball when he is open, and Steve has looked right at him and reversed the ball around the key.
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... Steve Blake has one job: Get the ball to Juan Dixon... uh.... I mean Roy.
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... That was my point. Oden is stuck playing with a PG who can't/won't get him the ball. And, by the time one who can enters the game, Oden is already on the bench with Nate's automatic 6 minute substitution. Have you ever noticed Oden often starts slow - scoring very little in the first half, but still usually finishes in double figures? The reason is simple. He almost never gets to play with Andre Miller in the first half of most games. Last night, he didn't get to play with him in the second half either and scored in single digits for the first time in 6 games and got the fewest touches he's seen in over two weeks. I swear Nate's automatic pulling of Greg at the 6 minute mark, regardless of the situation, reminds me of when I coached 6 and 7 year olds in a YMCA youth league that required equal playing time for everyone. We played 10 minute quarters with a running clock. The only time the clock stopped was at 5 minutes so we could bring in the subs. You had to sub at the halfway mark of the quarter, NO MATTER WHAT. Sound familiar? If Nate is only going to let Greg play 6 minutes in the first quarter, NO MATTER WHAT, he needs to either start Joel and let Greg come off the bench with Andre, or start Andre and Greg together. As it is, Greg is being totally wasted on offense in the first quarter by being paired with Steve Blake who can't/won't get him the ball. BNM
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... Oden plays with Miller at the beginning of the 2nd quarter. (Till the end of Miller's shift) Another reason he scores so little in the first half is because he usually plays around 10 mins.
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... Unless he has two fouls and then he sits the rest of the half.
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... Greg played exactly 0 seconds with Miller last night and 1:01 with him in the first half of the Memphis game. BNM
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... Can anyone else name a #1 pick who has gotten so little burn in his second season?
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... McMillan is the worst thing to happen to Greg since MF surgery.
