One's about to be fired (if not already), and the other has polls up here calling for his firing.

As coaches, who's better? Did Frank and Nate just forget how to coach this year? Has it been a long slide? Did they not improve? Is it laughable that this is even a thread?

If Nate quit tomorrow, would Frank be an upgrade? Would Frank be better for the team than Monty or Dean would?

    Food for discussion.

Frank is a decent coach who won a bunch of games to start his stint then never equaled that level of success again.

So no, Frank isn't as good a coach as Nate.

But that doesn't have any baring at all on the Blazer's situation. Nate appears to be loosing the team right now. At the very least Portland is not doing any of the things Nate wants them to do.

None of which means Portland should even consider for one second firing Nate to bring in Frank.

IF Portland fires Nate they need to bring in a guy who is at least as good. Ranking coaches is tough since every situation is different but Frank isn't an upgrade. Of the current unemployed coaches out there I honestly don't know who would be.

The list of coaches obviously better then Nate is short and all the guys on that list have jobs. Portland would have to hand the team over to a guy who is unproven.

If Nate were to be fired I would imagine the team would be handed over to Monte Williams for the rest of the year as an extended interview for the full time job.

Not the best option really. The best option is for Nate to figure out what needs to be done then convince his team leaders to do exactly what Nate wants.

A tall order to be sure.

Nate isn't going anywhere. We would have to fall a lot further in order for Nate's job to be in jeopardy. Nothing wrong with thinking just firing the coach would make everything better is the proper action to take on a 12-7 team, but history tells us it just isn't going to happen.

Would not Byron Scott be a good choice? He wears out his welcome, but he's gotten rapid results at each stop.

If we used a lot of the criteria people are citing for Nate to be fired, there are very few replacements that would make sense; Scott wouldn't meet the criteria of most the Nate-haters.

You would have to hire an unknown or give the reins to an assistant and hope that they fit the criteria.

I agree, and that makes zero sense.

I would gladly take Frank or Kevin McHale at this point. Or anyone that knows the triangle. Greg Oden should touch the ball on every offensive possession.

Because that has worked so well every time somebody other than Phil Jackson has tried it. Just ask Jim Cleamons. Or Kurt Rambis.

You're right. I'd much rather see a Roy ISO or pass it around the perimeter for 20 seconds then jack up a contested jump shot as the shot clock buzzer sounds.

If they were to make a mid-season coaching change it seems unlikely and unusual it would be for a coach they have already decided is going to guide the team long term. It seems more likely they would plug the hole with Terry Porter (already on staff for some reason) or even more likely, Monte Williams. In either case it would be an extended try-out while every coach in America has a chance to think about vying for the job. Whoever would be the interim coach would have to share KPs vision of how the team should play, or else what would be the point.

    The Nets are now 0-17.

I can't even fathom the Blazers losing that many games in a row.

I think BrianinWA should be coach. He seems to have all of the answers.
