What type of center would you like to have,a dominant low-post player like Shaq or someone like Sheed or Dirk that can stretch the defense with there range?

I like big guys that can shoot. They just can't suck at rebounding and defense, but if they have no offensive game I wouldn't want them starting for me.

Low post for me. But I would rather have both.

I'd rather have a shooter that doesen't have to be great down low but isn't <Censored> either. And if it's an offensive minded big man, I'd like the other PF or center in the starting line-up to be more of a post player.

I like the guy to be able to stretch the defense, and if he has some good post game, then it's even better. A guy like Rasheed and Dirk who can do both is a boon for their team, of course Sheed is more of a defensive player, and Dirk is a much better offensive threat and shooter, but that's the next generation of the big man.

I want a guy like Sheed or Dirk that can take it inside and bounce outside too, he spreads out the defense and that can really help out a team.

Well, if you have a guy like Rasheed, you have a guy that can go in the post AND shoot. That is pretty much ideal for me. But if i had to choose between the two, i'd pick low-post dominance. It's a rarity in this league, and every team that has one is a title contender, or close to it (San Antonio, Miami, LA Clippers, forget about NYK).

No question it's a low post front court player, I don't want my 7-footers shooting jumpshots.

I am going to agree with dogmatist and say that i would rather have the low post beast like a Duncan, Brand, or Shaq rather than the Dirk type big man. It is nice that Dirk can stretch the defense with his perimter shooting, however i think it hurts some in the fact that it's hard for Dirk to get into position for a rebound. The big man down low, is already in a good position to box out, and grab a rebound. Also on defense, the big men like Duncan, Brand and Shaq are better at altering and blocking shots than Dirk is. I have said it in other posts, i think a shot blocker is an important part to every team. These shot blockers don't have to be great one on one defenders, but their presence in the paint will be enough to make it hard on the other team to get points in the paint.

I gotta go back to the fundamentals - they have been proven to work. I like a center to be stricly focused on defense, rebounding, and basically providing the team with the dirty work. a.k.a - Ben Wallace.

Everyone should, of course, want a dominant big man, that can be a good to great post player, but to add to what Clutch Melo said.A guy like Dirk and Sheed can do both, really well. Now would you want a healthy young Shaq, or Sheed or Dirk...you want Shaq. But most the rest of the guys in the leage aren't Shaq, and Shaq isn't the old Shaq either. At this point in time, a guy like Sheed or Dirk who has both outside and inside game is a better thing to have than a guy that can't shoot a lick outside the lane.It just wouldn't make sense that you would want a 1 dimentional player, that can only score and make a difference in the post, other than a guy that can do both. Now I'll say this, I'd want a post player over a big man that ONLY has an outside game, like a Peja or someone like that.

I want my big man banging down low in the post taking accurate shots. Not shooting some 20 foot jumpers. I want my big guy to be an intimidating presence down there. A big man such as Shaq and Tim Duncan are the best bigguys in the league. As much as I love Dirk, he's still not as intmididating as Shaq/Duncan. He is much easier to shut down. He lets smaller guys get the best of him and that's not good for a big man.

I want a big man with a good shot selection, but someone that stays down low and gets the rebounds. Udonis Haslem fits my ideal Power Forward. The guards can shoot the threes for me.

I would rather have a guy with great post up moves who you can dump the ball into and get a high percentage shot out of..A shooter is obviously nice, but if your team has no post presence, youre not going anywhere...Its nice to say you want someone who can do both, but they are very hard to find..

It pretty much all depends on the strengths of your team. If you have a team that takes alot of jump shots, your want your big to be down low mixing it up. If you have alot of perimiter players that like to slash to the basket, you might want a center with range to force the opposing center to go out to the permiter and guard him, taking him out of the paint and making life easier for the rest of the team.

^Exactly.Besides, Dirk is kind of one of a kind, and he is a high percentage shooter, even though he likes the peremiter, and he does have a post game. Now of course, in general, you would want a high percentage down low scorer, cause most peremiter players aren't high percentage shooters. But that's the difference in a guy like Dirk who can do both...and in HIS case, and maybe Rasheeds too, you want that type of player. Beleive me, most of you guys would love to have a guy that is good in the post and the outside like Sheed' and Dirk are, rather than JUST a post player...unless you have Shaq or TD on your team. But agian, it's about the makeup of your team, and your preference. I mean guys that say "I don't like my PF shooting outside shots" is saying it cause his team or his favorite player can't do it.If you have a Sheed or Dirk you obviously like the player that can do both.Oh and by the way, someone said earlier they would rather have a guy like Brand cause he can't be stopped as easily as a guy like Dirk can by throwing a small guy on him.Umm, wrong on both counts.First off, Brand can be stopped, just like most other big men can, by either combination of team defense, double teams, or just the right player on them. And second, Dirk has shed that "small guys can stop him" label about a month ago for good. All the guys everyone said could lock him down, Bruce Bowen, Artest, and Marion, all allowed him to have great games against them. Yes he had trouble against Tmac and Marion last year in the playoffs, LAST year, he hasn't been shutdown at all this year by anyone, the only time he has been shut down is on an off shooting night, and he hasn't had many of those, per the 26 ppg average. Some of you guys are underrating Dirk here.

I like the combo big man low post player at center along with the versatile jump shooter at PF. To me they compliment each other perfectly. Most low post players in the nba aren't that good imo. Shaq, Yao, and Duncan are the exceptions. It really depends on the player. I would take Dirk over Brand or Jermaine O'Neal.

I would take brand over dirk in a heart beat. Dirk imo is a great player and causes problems for the opposition but big men who are as good as Brand are rare. Dirk even though is 7 foot does not play like you're typical 7 footer.
