Never saw a thread for this and I didn't know where to put this. Just thought I'd see which teams you follow (even if they're not your favorite team). Hopefully by doing this we can find find other teams we like amongst each other despite our....differences. Also, I want to find a 3rd seattle mariners fan lol. And oh, explain why. Basketball: Lakers: a lot of my filipino family members are from san fran and so they were laker fans. I was kinda born a laker fan. Bulls: born in chicago and apparently conceived after one of the 88 playoff games. Raptors: went to school in toronto for a year and a half so I grew fond of the carter-led raptors. Been following them before that, but I didn't love them. OKC: never a sonics fan, but after drafting durant its been fun watching that team grow. Baseball: Mariners: fan since 93. Griffey made me a baseball fan. Cubs: no comment. Football: Browns: its funny, I remember my bears playing against them and I loved to cheer against the team my fam loved. I picked the wrong team to like. Patriots: I live like 15 minutes away from gillette stadium Soccer: Gunners: none like them. Its really hard typing this on my blackberry so ill stop. What teams do you all follow?
Toronto Raptors - That's a given. I've lived in Toronto my whole life. Toronto Maple Leafs - Same as above. The Maple Leafs were the first sports team I became absolutely dedicated to. Felix Potvin was my idol growing up. Toronto Blue Jays - I'm not going to try and pretend I'm a hardcore fan. I find baseball only marginally entertaining and JP Ricciardi's made this team difficult to follow for the past 10 years. But, eventually I suffer sports withdrawal in the summer and follow the team a little. Toronto FC - The quality of the MLS is weak, but its still sort of enjoyable to watch all the homegrown players on the team. Going to game's live is ridiculously awesome. New York Giants - I have cousins in NY that we've visited twice a year since I was little. One of them is a big Giants fan and the other is a big Cowboys fan. I adopted the Giants as my team around the late 90's, my brother took the Cowboys.
Lakers - Born in SoCal, I've watched the Lakers' ever since I started watching basketball back in like 5th grade and have just followed them ever since. Chargers - Always loved LT and when I moved back to Cali, I got to watch every single one of their games. Being able to watch every single one of their games (Back in VA, I got the Deadskins' games) really turned me from liking LT and following the Chargers loosely into a die hard. Angels - See Lakers.
Arsenal FC - Grew up in Camden, North London so it was a choice between white and red... Sorry, shit and gold... I chose gold.
Utah Jazz: Growing up, Michael Jordan was the thing. Everyone wanted to be just like him, but since I was a PG, I fell in love watching Stockton. Seeing Stockton to Malone was a fun combo to watch despite me being so young. Carolina Panthers: I remember seeing this new team with cool colors playing the Cowboys, my mom's side of the family's team, in the NFC championship...so I rooted for them. Since they use to be in the Niners division, I decided to claim them as my team so I could root for them against the Niners (my dad's team). Then they just sort of grew on me. Seattle Mariners: Ken Griffey Jr....'nuf said. San Jose Sharks: Local team Arizona B-Ball: Point Guard U....being a PG growing up, it was fun to see Bibby, Terry, Arenas, Gardener, etc. UCLA Football: Watching their offense w/ Cade McNown was the bomb back in the day...too bad that was right b4 USC began their reign
Kansas Jayhawks - First team I ever watched on TV, fell in love with them. Pittsburgh Steelers - Uncle's favourite team and loved the Bus Philadelphia Flyers - Was a large Mark Recchi fan, then became a fan of Simon Gagne, nuf said Toronto Raptors - I'm a sucker for a bad team... lol no. Locale
Speaking of Toronto FC, my friends have told me that attending a game at BMO field is the closest thing you'll get to a euro soccer game. Your fans are absolutely ridiculous. Diehard. I love it.
Lakers - Lived near LA basically my whole life. I started playing basketball because of the Shaq/Kobe duo, which got me interested in sports to begin with. Eagles - Lived in the Philly area for a little bit. The people there were mostly all die hard Eagle fans, so I started to get into football. Dawkins, McNabb, Trotter, Westbrook, and DJax have kept me looking forward to Sundays every week (for the most part) while Andy Reid and the team break my heart every year. Phillies - I follow them on and off. I first tried to get into baseball with the Phillies (Eagles and Phillies rule Philadelphia), and then the Dodgers/Angels when I came back to CA but it has never worked for me. I don't consider myself a die hard fan by any means, but I root for them and may catch a game or so when the postseason starts. I love Jimmy Rollins :O Cal Bears - I'm not a big fan of the NCAA. Admitedly I started to root for the Bears on and off because of Shapecity's Leon Powe avy/sig back on JBB. Never really watched much of the games though. For football, all I knew was Desean Jackson and I'd tune in every now and then to watch them play. I liked Desean in college and am now ecstatic to watch him on the field every Sunday with the Eagles. I don't really follow any other teams. I still root for the Sixers and keep up with them occasionally, but my interest with them died down when Iverson was traded. I really want him to return to Philly one more year. lol
Green Bay Packers Grew up in a family thats split half Chicago Bears and half Green Bay Packers fans. Made up my mind seeing Favre playing so well. Ever since that decision I have been a pretty big fan of them. My friends are also split half Bears fans half Packers fans. I have some fun meetings with family and friends. Chicago Blackhawks Always been a hockey fan, grew up playing street hockey at my cousins house in the middle of the street with roller blades and a ball. Been to tons of hockey games, 3 Hawks games. 2 wins, one lose. Chicago Wolves Amazeing minor league hockey team. Been to a few of their games as well, one really close to where I live and two up in Rosemont, Illinois. The Wolves are not in Chicago. Its basically right next to Chicago, really close to Ohare. They are the minor league team to the Atlanta Thrashers. Rockford Icehogs Recently became a fan of the Icehogs, because they are the minor league team of the Blackhawks. Big rivals with the Wolves, so when they play I am happy.
Vancouver Canucks Lived in Vancouver for basically my whole life, I remember I was like 4 when they made their cup run, shit was wild, too bad they lost. Toronto Raptors Only basketball team in Canada
It's an incredible atmosphere. The ownership's decision to settle on a smaller stadium as worked wonders, as its always packed and creates a mobbish atmosphere (especially when everyone's excited). The fans are really into this team, too. They do this thing where they all stamp on the floor simultaneously and it makes it feel like the stadium's going to collapse. They're pretty hard on opposing teams too.
I heard you guys were expanding the seat capacity by 5000-10000 seats soon. Sucks for you guys Edu left so early. Bastard. And to add, it'll be really fun having the Whitecaps and (in a year or two, i'm guessing) the Impact go to the MLS. Soccer is 5x bigger in Canada than it is in the States.
I'd support it now, since it's obvious that they'd still be filling those seats. It's gotten fairly difficult to get tickets for games. The demand is high. People here have started calling our field the "Maurice Edu Memorial Pitch," because the organization used the money from his transfer to replace the artificial turf with real grass. Can't wait for the potential rivalries with Vancouver and Montreal. I hate those cities so much....
Yeah Toronto have a great fanbase and one of my favorites because they DON'T HAVE A GOD DAMN NICKNAME. The Pittsburg Pottery-Makers, Montreal Measles, Idaho Internet... THE ARSENAL AARDVARKS!
Great thread man. Football/Soccer = Man Utd been following them for the past 10 years now, was a big AC Milan fan before that when I was in Kosovo until 1999. (still have a feeling for them lol) Basketball = Celtics - from 2004 onwards, when we moved to Massachusetts have become a die hard fan. Mostly because get to see every single game, so watched the season where they sucked so bad, when they had Al Jefferson and company. Throwball/NFL = Patriots, again mostly because I live here now. Baseball = Redsox and also Yankees sometimes because of Joba who was a classmate at UNL. Also big fan of Olymics, wish they had it every year.
for two big sports guys who live in Mass, we have nothing in common . Except the Patriots, but its the exact same reason as you
Uh... Ravens - Only team I've seen play (about three times now) and they are local-ish. Better than supporting the Deadskins, I guess. DC United - Again, local. I've seen them play about 10 times now and the atmosphere is pretty good for the MLS. I'd say 2nd best after Toronto. Capitals - Local... Seen them play twice. Not a fan of basketball or baseball, sorry.
football- 49ers grew up in the bay area, san jose/oakland/alemeda baseball-SF Giants ^^^^^^^ Basketball- Blazers lived in portland from age 10-19 soccer- man u, blackpool, brazil my buddy is from blackpool and likes man u so i started watching soccer with him and enjoyed it. brazil is just the most entertaining, or was, kinda playing safe last couple times i saw them. college sports U of Oregon, Oregon state... in that order... UofO is the winner though. my classmate from high school went to UofO when they went to the elite 8, freddy jones. won the slam dunk championship in the nba as well.
