It was pathetic to see him booed last nite. I still can't really understand it. But, there were several people who didn't like him much when he was here. Especially once he wanted to "get paid." Why do you think that was?
The White Sox once had this slugger named Oscar Gamble. In the early years of Baseball's Free Agency, he became a FA and signed with the San Diego Padres. When the Padres played the Cubs at Wrigley, he was booed mercilessly. It is the way it is.
I was kind of disappointed by that, too. He deserved a nice ovation the first time he checked in. After that, go ahead and boo him since he's a Piston now. But he at least deserved some recognition because even though he was after the money in the end, that's his right and you can't blame him for that and he was very professional the vast majority of the time. But to not even really acknowledge him is kind of cold and reflects poorly on the Chicago crowd, at least IMO.
Its strange. Ben Gordon, a guy who always worked hard and played well for the Bulls and decided to leave when the Bulls didn't offer him a reasonable contract is booed unmercifully. Ben Wallace, a guy who really crippled the team and underperformed terribly for the fantastic amount of money he was paid, was hardly booed at all. Strange business. And, for the record, there were plenty of cheers for Gordon when he entered the game as well. It just didn't continue every time he touched the ball like the boos did.
Yeah, from the bit I could hear over a crappy feed, it sounded like more chears than boos, but I guess that changed or was just a mistaken perception
The Bulls didn't want to pay him. That's just life. Fans should be thanking BG for leaving if they end up signing a marquee free agent next summer. It wouldn't have been possible if he had accepted that offer from a couple summers ago.
Sure it would. Instead of letting go of Gordon and keeping Hinrich, they could have kept Gordon and traded Hinrich.
