http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/basketball/colangelo-doesnt-pass-the-buck/article1388141/ -apparently this is the second time he's had to do this, clearly, no one likes u colangelo so just leave town gracefully
Colangelo got what he wanted: a cosmopolitan, fast-paced, Phoenix-North style basketball team, Mark Iavaroni, Bargnani, Marion--you just have to question what the hell he expected.
No kidding. He assembled a roster full of all offense, no defense players and is now surprised the team is terrible on defense? The worst part is he overpaid several of them (Hedo, Jack, Bargnani) and signed them to long term contracts/extensions. So, this problem isn't going away anytime soon and will likely get worse before it gets better. A coaching change might shake things up for a while, but ultimately it comes back to the players you have on the roster. A new coach might inspire the players to play better for a month or two, but can any coach win with this this roster long term? While they may be attempting to play Phoenix style basketball, they don't have Phoenix level talent. Jay Triano will likely be the short term fall guy for this. I don't think he's doing a great (or even good) job, but after Sam Mitchell was fired last year, the Raptors record got even worse. It ultimately comes down to the players you have on the roster and that's the GM's responsibility. Firing the coach is a short term band aid. If they end up below 0.500 and miss the play-offs, Bosh is most likely gone, and then what? It will be very hard to rebuild around a 30+ year old Hedo on a long term contract with Bargnani, Calderon and Jack all taking up significant cap space or several years to come. If Bosh leaving becomes inevitable they will need to move him by the trade deadline to get something of value in return. Even then, it won't be close to equal value due to Bosh's uncertain contract status moving forward. What a mess. BNM
Not necessarily. They still own his rights next summer and can offer him the most money. If Bosh really wants out and wants max money they'll broker a sign and trade.
what this team has needed for a long time is a breakdown point guard- a guy who gets into the heart of the defense forcing multiple defenders his way and he has his choice of the open shooter he wants to hit- bargnani, hedo, marco, caldedron and wright (to a much lesser extent). if utah called tonight with a deron for bash straight up, i would wake up the commish and fax the paperwork before they could change their mind. that would never happen because they looked up milsap
Yeah, Deron is Deron. In addition to Millsap, they have Boozer (for now), Okur and AK47. They need Deron a lot more than they need Bosh. BNM
You have a better chance prying Chris Paul away from NOH than Deron Williams fro UTA - and that's still a tremendous long shot. NOH are losing, attendance sucks, their owner is broke and they have a huge payroll with multiple bad contracts. As good as Bosh is, his only value to them would be a big expriring contract. If they did trade for Bosh, they wouldn't even try to re-sign him. They would just want to use him to dump some of their bad contracts on you. BNM
I think he wants to win more than he wants max money. Yeah, you could do a sign and trade after the seaon is over, but you would need to work out something that benefits all three parties. And, if you can't, you lose him and get NOTHING. BNM
