Yeah he really took Dallas to an elite team. A team that could possibly win a championship. 60 wins despite all the injuries.
Good for him, now all we really need is for Dirk to get the MVP and it'll be a great year for the Mavs.
I figured he would get it. D'Antoni and Popovich have had it recently. I knew Avery was the next best coach behind them. Good for Avery, lets just have him get a ring now

Congrats to Avery on this.
Since Byron Scott's team faded away I think Avery definetly deserved this. D'Antoni did a nice job also coaching around the loss of Stoudamire and being part of the reason why Diaw and TT are here. And Flip also did a good job but his team was already a championship team. Avery improved the Mavs and I hope he can beat his old team in the 2nd round.

However, the league's other major piece of hardware ? the MVP trophy ? will elude Dirk Nowitzki, a source said. While it was unknown who will win the MVP, it will not be Nowitzki, who was lumped with Phoenix's Steve Nash, Cleveland's LeBron James, Detroit's Chauncey Billups and the Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant as legitimate candidates.</div>

And Phoenix Suns can prove your notion wrong this year.
They have no chance against the Spurs and might even lose to the Clippers. Dallas has a much better chance this year than Phoenix. Also the mavs were a terrible defensive team in 03-04 so their improvements in rebounding didn't help considering they gave it up on defense.
Suns have the easier road to the WCF then Dallas. They play the Lakers who despite what people think, will have their way with them. Then probably Clippers, who I think we pose a tougher matchup but not as tough as Mavs who face Spurs. Suns have two easier matchups when the Mavs have the Grizz, then Spurs, and then Suns if they beat Spurs. So I'd take the Suns road then Mavs. Suns have a great shot this year.

Who on the suns is strong enough or big enough to handle Kaman and Brand. Rebounding and Defense will give the suns problems especially against the Clippers.

It would be a fun matchup that I see Suns winning in 6 or 7. It's still a easier matchup compared to Mavs who will have to face Spurs.
The newspaper said Dirk won't win MVP, but if he does NOT make the top three for MVP, you KNOW something is wrong, because last season he was 3rd, and he should not slip for any reason, whatsoever.
Hey, Rok. I agree with you that the run and gun can work in the playoffs, especially with the defense we've had this year, but I don't think this will be the year we prove anyone wrong. If Amare goes back to almost his normal self and comes back with his improved shooting we will prove people wrong next year with that offense.
Yeah, but remember Steve Nash is still getting older. Not sure why he's still playing SO well, but he'll go down within a couple of years. He's in great shape, but Phoenix runs like <Censored>.
With the talent Nash will have around him, and the depth he has, Nash should be fine for another couple of years and we only need him for one more since I think we'll have a championship next year. After he's done I think Barbosa could do well or else we can sign a good vet point guard. The offense isn't too hard so I think we'll be fine at the point guard position.
