after crane brought up deng, it reminded me of little known fact- in the 07 offseason: colangelo aggressively pursued deng. it was something divulged in the behind the draft special but the media never really pursued it but raptor nation was a buzz. who thinks deng is worth pursuing again? today it would be complicated because colangelo already committed to hedo at the three and im certain the bulls wouldnt take back that onerous contract. although, three way deals seem alluring like say big z (and his expiring contract) to president obama's town, deng to torono and hedo to the cavs?
I'd do that deal in a heartbeat, but I'm not sure Cleveland does it. I'd love to trade Deng and Hinrich - see any deals that work for both?
I remember they were scrambling for enough cap space to sign Nash as a FA and they traded the pick that ended up being Deng for the Bulls' #1 pick the next season. Colangelo figured the Bulls would suck and the pick would be good, but he was wrong. And the #1 pick ended up not counting against the cap. The Bulls drafted Gordon #3, Deng #7, Duhon in the 2nd round, and signed Nocioni as a FA. They went on to win 47 games with that team, leaving Phoenix a much worse pick than #7.
everyone can be traded but hinrich has a really bad deal for a backup point guard which makes him virtually untradeable. to purge yourself of hinrich would require u guys to assume a bad contract (i.e beno udrich) or sweeten the pot by adding a draft pick or a young stud like noah. i actually think the latter scenario is probable with your frugal owner. and here's why the cavs would do it- all of their offseason moves have failed miserably and they are in desperation mode to keep the king in town so they feel like they need to add something. and another playmaker would ease lebron's workload and help out mo williams' game immeasurably. also, they are over the cap even with big z expiring which means the best they could do in the offseason is use the mle and those players arent hedo caliber.
Good game Raptors. Less good for my Bulls. I agree with those of you who think Hedo makes a Deng trade unlikely at this point. And after last night's fiasco, would you really feel that good about it anyway? How's about John Salmons? Didn't he almost sign with the Raptors before backing out and going to Sacramento? Of course, maybe that burned some bridges too.
Salmons did to us what Hedo did to Portland. Can't see any significant trade happening between Chicago and Toronto.
