http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/s...26nash0426.htmlSource: Nash to be MVPSuns guard would be 10th player to win award in consecutive seasonsPaul CoroThe Arizona RepublicApr. 26, 2006 12:00 AMSuns star Steve Nash will be named the NBA's Most Valuable Player for a second straight season, according to a league source familiar with the voting. The announcement may not come for two weeks, like last season's May 8 ceremony. The votes have been tabulated in what was expected to be a close race with LeBron James, Dirk Nowitzki, Chauncey Billups and Kobe Bryant.Nash won the fourth-closest MVP vote last year, edging Shaquille O'Neal a year after Nash was not even an All-Star.Nash, 32, impressed voters this season by posting career highs in scoring (18.8 points per game), rebounding (4.2 per game), field goal percentage (.512) and free-throw percentage (NBA-best .921). He led the league in assists again with 10.5 per game and finished sixth in three-point shooting (43.9 percent). After Amar? Stoudemire's knee surgery deprived the Suns of their top scorer, Nash led the team to 54 wins and its first repeat division title with only Shawn Marion and Leandro Barbosa back for a full season.Nash would be the first international and Suns player to win twice.Only nine previous players repeated as MVP winners. Magic Johnson was the only point guard to do so. Congratulations even though i believe some other players were more deserving.
I have no problem with it personally, some are going to say there were more deserving players, but no matter who won, someone would be unhappy and make an argument for another player..This race was so close and I congradulate Nash and the others on terrific seasons and Nash on his second consecutive MVP award, leading his team to once again become division champions without Amare..
Well, I think it was a good choice. Dirk played great but, still without Dirk the Mavs would of been horrible. Nash on the other hand is a great point guard but, I think the Suns could of still made the playoffs without him but the Mavs couldn't of without Dirk. Just more props to Steve now.
I don't know if this is true or not, but Kobe should win MVP. Unless it is confirmed by the NBA I wouldn't buy this just yet.
This is probably true. Really sad but true....I have a hard time supporting Nash for MVP, I don't care what you say, when Dallas lost him they didn't take a step back and that to me tells you all you need to know. Sure that was Dallas but my lord that speaks volumes. It's sad to see Nash winning these MVP's while Gary Payton and Jason Kidd have put up great numbers as well as winning a lot and they didn't get MVP's. Nash had a great year but it's the system folks. And now because of this their will be talk about him going to the HOF and all this other stuff when he doesn't deserve to be in the HOF and when you win 2 MVP's and don't deserve to go to the HOF that says something as well. Shaq/Kobe = 1 MVP Steve Nash = 2 MVP's What a joke.
Well good job for Nash but there were probably 5 more deserving players. Nowitzki once again not getting the credit he deserved. To me he is the MVP but oh well. Maybe next year.
I dont' think you could have really gone wrong here, if any of these 4 guys won it, Dirk, Kobe, Lebron, Nash, noone would have been undeserving in this especially deep year. The problem was, even though it was a weak race last year, that if Nash won last year, and he played better this year, than he should win it.That's not my thinking, but the guys who voted for him last year probably thought that way.
BOOOOOOOOODisappointed in this as it makes the Mavs management look stupid in letting a two time MVP walk away. Congrats to Nash on the award.
The mavs wouldn't do any better with Nash over Dampier. Dallas needed defense and once they got it they were a different team. Nash can't guard anyone.

Jason Terry, Jerry Stackhouse,Devin Harris , Diop, Josh Howard and Marquis Daniels were starting to break out, Keith Van Horn, ectI cant be mad that Steve Nash won it. What he did with that Suns roster is amazing but I think Kobe deserved it more. Not only is Kobe the best player in the league. He is the most VALUABLE to his team.

Van Horn shouldn't even be on that list because he has been horrible ever since he came to Dallas. Devin Harris, Josh Howard, Diop, and Dampier are the difference but they still played better without Nash which says a lot about Nash's lack of importance to Dallas. Phoenix also had a lot of players that are about to breakout. Amare, Marion, Joe Johnson, Barbosa, and Q. Richardson of last year and Diaw, Bell, Barbosa, Tim Thomas, Marion, and Kurt Thomas this year. I don't think Kobe is the MVP either though. I think it is Dirk or Lebron.

And your overrating Dampier, whose been inconsistent with his duty to be a defensive force. I love the guy, but look at the centers around the league, and don't tell me he's not replaceable. Nash isn't. Also, Terry can't guard anyone either, so who cares?
Well, whatever... So, no ones talking about Boris Diaw winning MIP? Bah!And Rok, I would've been happier with D'Antoni as COY and Nowitzki as MVP. Lets make a trade.
Nash is now in the feild with Jordan and Magic as the only gaurd to win the MVP twice. Pretty big step considering he cannot even play defense.
BCB is a heter . Look what he did for the suns. He made them top team. With out the 3 allstars of last season. Plus he made bums into stars
I picked Kobe as MVP, but Nash is still a good winner. My list was 1.Kobe,2. Dirk, 3. Nash.A lot of ppl picked his team to have a major drop off from last season, but they didnt. I would have to give most of the credit to Nash.

And me and mavsfan just agree to disagree on the Nash situation. I just don't see how anyone can justify letting go what is now a 2 time MVP player, oh well.
Not really. There aren't any "bums" on this team and Quentin Richardson was trash. Everyone we got in the off-season has done more for us than him.
Well i dont mean Bums as in real Bum players... But yea..And why should kobe get MVP cause he scored 81 points?Lebron stats are better then kobes
Nah, Rok. D'Antoni did a very good job in my opinion but 2 awards is good anyway. I think any of the top candidates could have won this and same with the coahces.I agree Bullz, Lebron is my MVP this year since no one talks about Brand anymore. Kobe had one incredible game and suddenly he's the best player ever.
