How did he not improve??? Look at the numbers, that is what the voters base this award on..Mike James increased his numbers, therefor he had to be noticed to some degree..Theres no denying that he improved his numbers and was more of a factor for this team. Is this Toronto team that much better than last year's Houston team? I dont think so, they are at about the same level in my opinion, so its not like he necessarily took on a bigger role..If youre Bobby Sura's backup, youre not considered a starting caliber player..This season he has established himself as someone who should start every game for any team..

Do I have to repeat myself? Did you even read my post. I dont care about the numbers. Basketball isnt about numbers and if you say someone improved, they have to have improved at something. Mike didnt. He was always a great shooter, now he is just taking advantage of the idea of having the ball at all times on a weak team, he can take all the shots he wants, therefor he scores more, he rarely passes the ball, he shoots alot. His situation kind of reminds me of Kobe Bryant. You dont see Kobe being up for MIP.

I didnt say he was the most improved player, I said he was considered by the voters due to his increase in numbers because thats what they look at when selecting someone for this award..

Mike James: increased his PPG by 8.4 points.increased APG by 2.2 assists.increased FG% by 2%increased 3P% by 6%I would call that a statistical improvement..Compare to Diaw and West:West:increased PPG by 10.9 points.increased RPG by 3.1 rebounds.increased FG% by 8%Diaw:increased PPG by 8.5 points.increased RPG by 4.3 rebounds.increased APG by 3.9 assists.increased FG% by 10%increased 3P% by 8%Sure he hasnt improved his numbers as much as the two frontrunners, but he has still made noticable statistical boosts in several catergories..I believe this award is largely based on statistics and based on the numbers shown here, I think James is one of several players to be included in a discussion about MIP..Like I said, in no way should he win the award over Diaw or West..or even Krstic for that matter, but the fact is, his numbers have went up considerably..<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (CB4AllStar @ Apr 26 2006, 10:44 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>He improved his numbers but he didnt improve his game. Two totally different things. To explain my strange quote on AIM-I was joking. Thankyou and goodnight.</div>He improved his numbers, exactly, thats what makes him a candidate for this award. Anybody who is in the running for this award doesnt just become an entirely different player in the offseason, if youre in the NBA, you are capable of putting up numbers when given a shot. All three guys were given minutes and an oppurtunity to shine and they all did. West was a good player before this season, did he improve his game alot or was he given an oppurtunity to play? I think its a combo of both, but the minutes are the biggest factor..

Yeah dude. I know he improved his numbers. I meant he hasnt improved his game at all. Duh, he gets more ppg because he gets the ball every posession on the Raptors, and when you're Mike James, when you get the ball, you dont pass it.

I was hoping Gerald Wallace would win. Dude tore it up this year compared to previous seasons.

I didnt say he improved his game..Have you read anything I said? I said this award hinges on statistical improvement, and James was one of the guys who has shown noticable improvement in his numbers this year..Tell me about the numbers West and Diaw put up last season, then tell me numbers arent the main aspect looked at when determining the winner of this award..

Once again to quote Hoopskidd-"how did he not improve"I assumed you weren't talking about stats when you asked how he didnt improve.

My entire point this topic has been how this award is based on statistical improvement..That quote only supports my statement because he did improve his numbers..Statistical improvement:increased his PPG by 8.4 points.increased APG by 2.2 assists.increased FG% by 2%increased 3P% by 6%

Neither has Diaw's or West's for the most part. Sure they likely worked hard on their game in the offseason, but the major reason for their improvement is being given the minutes and oppurtunity to play.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (CB4AllStar @ Apr 27 2006, 07:06 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I was talking about how Mike James' skill has not improved at all.</div>This topic is about who is the most improved player, not who improved their skill the most..

I think he deserves it since he's made a big turn around in his career. I think he deserves it even more than anyone else because he can play every position on the court except for PG which D'Antoni doesn't like 4 him.

He would be doing nearly as good on another team. His rebounding wouldnt be as good because he would probably be more at his natural position but he would get possibly more shots on another team if he was a higher option and his assists i think would be around the same. He is a young player with talent who i think will have similar if not better numbers next year.
