Well, now that we've been in town awhile, it's time to venture out to some of the better restaurants in town. I love ethnic food, so definitely want to check some of those out. Anyway, if you would, please let me know any of your favorite: Italian Chinese Mexican Steaks/American Seafood/Fish Pizza Hamburgers Romantic Sports Bar (Food) Ritzy (for a special occasion) Other Thanks in advance!
Wonderful tapas food, good place but a bit expensive (for tapas)... For Mexican that isn't fancy but it's good try Por Que No down on N. Mississippi..tiny little place but good food. In the "I don't know what category it is"...Mother's downtown...go there. Mac and cheese. Yes, mac and cheese. If you're in the mood for just a quick red meat trip, I'd highly suggest Higgin's bar. Even at non-happy hour times. They have a prime rib burger that I absolutely love. It's hard to get a spot, so go a little early. But good food.
Pok Pok was awesome on Divison! www.pokpokpdx.com its been a while, but I've always liked Wildwood for PNW cooking.
Ethiopian: Bete-Lukas http://www.yelp.com/biz/bete-lukas-ethiopian-restaurant-portland#hrid:Hn8n7EX2t5nR9WbjWqY7Tg To try something new. At first you'll think, wtf, ethiopian? But it really is great food. It's a small place and it's always busy.
Is there a nice Chinese place in downtown? I'm hoping to take my wife out for the downtown holiday experience, followed by some good chow................................mein.
Do you like "white" chinese food? If so, PF Changs? I personally don't like it, but Opies seem to love it. Dim Sum is always fun, we usually hit up the House of Louie (but not recently we just hang in the burbs @ Jin Wah). been a while though.
In the Pearl District, have you been to Andina? Its some pretty cool upscale peruvian food....awesome drink menu.
best overall toro bravo best thai (it is really thai street food) pok pok. chicken wings must eat best dim sum wong's king best pizza apizza scholls best bar food (burger included) slow bar best indian chai masala (sp might be wrong) there is no best mexican in portland. burritos are good at king on lombard and pannaria santa cruz in st johns best use of local goods paleys although expensive. there is no real good chinese in town. fu jin on hawthorne is cheap and decent though
like the way you think! Apizza and slowbar are on my to-try list. I've heard good things about pambiche (cuban).
I was disappointed in pambiche the one time I've been there. As for the Mexican listings..King Burrito as ob mentioned..if you ever want a cheap lunch, get the burrito enchilada style. It's like $4....yum.
Japanese = Bush Garden - Downtown Mexican = La Coretta - McGloughlin Blvd Chinese = Imperial Garden - Milwaukie Breakfast = Original Hotcake House - Powell blvd Burgers = Mike's Drive-in Milwaukie
I took my family there once. FANTASTIC, but my Mom kept stewing about how much it cost. Ran me around $280 for the five of us, but worth every penny.....er, dollar!
Shanghai Noble House is a very good Chinese restaurant that is close to downtown in John's Landing. If you have a entertainment card you get 1 dish for free as well.
