The writing is on the wall IMO.

    You CAN'T build around Oden.

I'm sure we'll hear KP babble on about how we made the 'right choice' and would do so if he had a chance to do it all over again.

Wow, Greg played in only 33 percent of possible games. It doesn't matter how much potential you have, if you only have that small of sample to show off your skills, there is no way you can this team on any dynasty run.

I hope it doesn't come across that I'm dogging you for using the term, but I'm sick to death of hearing and reading about "dynasties"

I'm just tired of hearing people compare this to the bowie situation. I highly doubt that Kevin Durant is the next Michael Jordan. Not even close. A talented scorer? Absolutely, but Jordan was on a whole other plain. Dude was unstoppable. Durant isn't that good. Would I love to have him? Yes, but I think it's ridiculous to think that anyone would have taken Durant over Oden back in 2007. In all reality, knowing what I know today, I would have tried to trade the pick for something else. Supposedly Melo was on the table.

    Melo > Durant imo.

    Let's keep things in perspective.

Arvydas Sabonis played his first game as a Blazer 9 years after they drafted him.

Len Bias died from cardiac arrest from a cocaine overdose 2 days after being selected at No. 2 by the Celtics.

i think those of you who beleive oden was the wrong choice are correct, ofcourse he looked great in highschool and colledge, thats because he was a miillion times bigger than all of his oponents. when he has played in the nba he hasnt shown any dominance over his oponents, barring the shitty players who are at the same level as his college opponents. give up on this kid and trade him before its too late.

ofcourse he could turn out to be good, but it looks like that isnt going to happen too soon, and you have a squad that, i beleive with a couple more peices added to the bench and a more reliable big man, you could be top contenders. dont wait for oden to grow up into the player he could be, he is weak mentally because of what he has had to go through and it comes through in his game and his attitude. you could recieve some good talent once oden is healthy if you traded him, you could fire your coach and design an offense that utilizes lma and roy better than the current one. but once again, as youall probably agree, prichard is too slow to even think about these sorts of moves. this team would work great on a video game, but this is reality, pritchard doesnt get this

Did you happen to see Greg Oden play this season? He had a PER of 23.3, was leading the entire league in TRB% (total rebound percentage) and BLK% (block percentage) and was second in FG%.

Yes, he's been injured a LOT, but anyone who thinks he isn't dominant when healthy doesn't know what the fuck they are talking about.

Trading him now, or anytime soon, would be the dumbest thing the Blazers could do. Due to his latest injury, his trade value is low. They would never get equal value back in a trade. He's still only 21 years old. The injuries have been unfortunate, but non of the injuries he's had have been related or recurrng (right wrist in college, microfracture surgery on the right knee, broken left kneecap). Too soon to give up on him - especially given his current low trade value.

    Nope.

Still looks like the ravings of the tragically uninformed.

If he had been, say..20th pick, and in his first 4 seasons he missed 45 (out of 50 games, and would've been 77 games out of 82, since he missed the whole next year), 82 and 58 games would it be historical?

Or is it because he's the #1 pick, and it's vogue to beat-off to comparing him to Sam Bowie that makes writers bring up these facts?

i hate this, as soon as i state an opinion, people jump on my back about spelling grammar, whatever it is, im not trying to write an essay here, im not looking to out smart you, im just sharing an opinion on this forum that is free for anybody to join, what if a S2 member had a learning dissability and stated thier opinion on whether oden was the right choice for the blazers, you would do the same, you would argue and insult them on thier grammar, please grow up, i dont care about perfect grammar when im at work or at uni using the little spare time that i have to join in discussion on this forum, so please anybody who thinks about arguing the point of grammar and spelling on a basketball website please, i think you have the wrong address, find somewhere else to complain about the lack of grammaticaly correct posts on website forums. im here to talk about basketball.

okay, now, without throwing in obscure stats and false predictions, how has oden helped this team in the way lebron or dwight has after being selected 1st overall? even in the way melo has or wade has. the way kg did and the way kobe did.

One of the problems is that oden hasnt had the chance because he has lma and roy demanding most of the touches, plus some below-par point guards. Another problem is ofcourse oden is seriously prone to injury, he just landed after jumping and did his knee in and is now out for a year. Oden was hyped up as much as lebron but hasnt yet lived up to any of it, yes for small periods of time he has shown promise, even been very good, but so have others, and they have faded away in time. he has yet to maintain any form of dominance over oponents who also are headed towards the playoffs, he hasnt shown he can keep things up, because when he does perform at that high level he gets hurt. that is the reality of the situation, its nothing to do with his skillset, it is to do with his fragile body and weakened mentality that he brings on the floor.

i think that if good news comes out of injury, and if oden does recover completely, if given the chance to perform and if that performance shows signs of him being a great center, then i would consider changing up your team, because he doesnt work within this current squad. i would go as far as to trading roy, he is another player who you all say is so great, produces great stat lines, but cant win games, may as well have jr smith on your team instead if thats what you like, or allen iverson, hey maybe even stephon marbury. great stats, not enough wins, and thats all it comes down to. i belive that niether oden or roy can be strong enough to lead a team deep into the playoffs, as they arent good at getting thier team to win. you have a great great lineup of players with alot of talent in thier, but i still dont see the amount of wins that i would normally expect. im sure you all dont like me stating that dont beleive oden or roy can get it done, but right now it looks like thats the reality.

I wondered how Oden ranks in effectiveness (ESPN definition, not NBA.com) per minute. (I wanted something different from PER.) This doesn't include tonight's games. (A couple of stats don't show the decimal point, so I put *100 to mean times 100, but it doesn't affect anything.)

Conclusion: Oden ranks 19th in the league in effectiveness per minute this season.

Well, more people will read your posts if you make them readable. If you don't care about that, it's no problem, of course. But I couldn't read more than this paragraph.

well, um, they are readable, i dont understand the problem.

of course he has a good per and all that jazz, but he doesnt play nearly enough to win games.
too injury prone, so he's unreliable and will let the fans down in the future by getting injured again. once you sustain an injury like the ones that oden has, those parts of the body become weaker and give in to injury easier the next time. oden is meant to be a big bangin' center, but his body is much to fragile to commit all this attention to, to invest so much in.

You'll get farther by blaming McMillan for that than Oden. Akira, I won't blame you up to this point, assuming that you change your beliefs now that you've been presented with the truth. That's because you're getting your lack of appreciation for Oden from the national and Laker media. Look at Oden's stats, or even game film, and you'll see that Laker articles against Oden are arrogant and false.

The same happened to Bob Whitsitt. The thought leaders in his fall from grace came from Lakerland, out of jealousy. I detected it in their media even in the last couple of years of Whitsitt's Sonic GMship, before he even started here. We listen to trolls for a few years and since their market overwhelms ours, we come to believe the propaganda and get rid of good people.

How about "Bowie over Barkley"?? Seems closer than the Jordan analogy.

this is true, and i agree what i hear out of the oden camp is maybe a little unreliable, but i think maybe im not saying this right, i think oden is a great talent with alot of potential, he has shown this, but what he has shown more is that he cant stay healthy, and if it were me i would be extremely wary in investing my time, effort, money and hopes in a player that could drop to the floor at any time. to sum up, i beleive the hard line is the most successful in th enba, and that is the line that will eventually have to be taken with oden, he is a huge risk to have on the floor and if your risking all of that to only have a 20/10 player then your standards are too low and i think the blazers should start to get some sort of insurence on the team once oden goes down again.this has nothing to do with unreliable media sources, only a 1st hand experience with basketbal injury and the repucutions.
