    You're KP.

Nate's been let go, and you've replaced him with an interim head coach for the rest of the season. Now, you're coach hunting, and have to prepare a list of all the qualities and qualifications the new guy for this team needs to have. Also list some key responsibilities and duties that the new coach will have to handle. What is most important? Essentially, this is what KP will describe to potential applicants both before and during the interview. Go.

I'm not really looking for names, as much as I am a description of our new coach.

He should have the same qualities and qualifications as Paul Westphal.

He'll have to handle the same key responsibilities and duties that Paul Westphal currently handles with the Kings.

Entertaining team-based basketball that is fun to watch is what is important.

Paul Westphal's teams are a good example.

    Someone who isn't a micromanager

Someone who plays a more uptempo game

Someone who has a concept of how to design a defensive scheme

Someone who does not rely on ISO's to score points

Someone who doesn't play poor players because, as a player, they were replaced in the lineup by a better player

    Key responsibilities:

    1. Getting Brandon to trust his teammates.

    2. Designing an offense that takes advantage of our players athleticism.

I'm not sure if this season is going to be the best way to measure Nate's ability to coach, but it will probably be instructive as to just how adaptable he is. If he is fired and replaced I don't care about tempo, but I would prefer somebody with a track record of flexibility and for being able to maximize talent given to him.

That said, this team still will have some roster imbalances and probably needs to cashier some of these "young potential" players into solid role players who don't mind doing dirty work and who better compliment the "stars" of the team.

Prime Directive: To go where no Coach has gone before. To seek out a system which is molded around the crew you have, instead of seeking a crew to fit around the only system you know.

This means that you are facile with all alternative systems and can implement adjustments in the heat of a game. So I don't require that you be a fast break guy or grind it out guy. I require that you be expert at both. All other requirements and talents follow from the Prime Directive.
