man, you blazers fans are bitter about the lakers, lol, its hilarious. That trade was two years ago and you still cant get over it or understand that memphis got a pretty good deal, they wanted enough time to rebuild around their young stars so they made the trade earlier than the deadline. Gasol wasnt doing anything for that team and they had no upside and were begining to grow stale, the trade free'd them up to explore different options for the team, to start in a new direction, and at the moment they seem to be doing pretty good by my standards. Not a lopsided trade if you pay attention to the more important factors of the deal; and hey, if the lakers hadnt made it to the finals or never won the championship and done badly with gasol you would say, well memphis did alright didnt they. stop all the hate, its wasting everyones time, and its embarrassing. anyway, id love to see butler on this team, and of the deals youv'e proposed that seems the most likely to occur. i think bosh is out of reach unless equal talent comes in return.
real simple... blake and outlaw packaged (2 expiring contracts) = nice player back. blake is fallen out of favor with fans and nate (sounds that way)
Not weeks before the deadline. The closer you get to the deadline, the better the offers get. I remember GMs around the league were angry because they felt they didn't get a fair shot at Pau.
getting closer to the deadline doesn't always make the offers get better. it can, or they could get worse if teams know you have to make a deal. memphis wasn't looking for equal talent. they were looking to cut salary. if they find a deal that achieves all their goals(cut salary and add cheap young talent), why should they continue waiting around until the trade deadline? i mean you must at least be pissed off about the spurs getting richard jefferson this summer for absolutely nothing as well, right?
So, Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittendon and a second round pick who didn't look to have NBA athleticism was the best they knew they could do? I find that hard to believe. You and I are just going to have to agree to disagree. Again, I recall the shock, surprise and (in some cases) anger from NBA GMs who were surprised how cheaply Gasol went for, and how some didn't think they had a fair shot at making an offer for him. Not particularly. Richard Jefferson is overpaid and on the downside of his career. If the Spurs would have gotten Jefferson weeks before the trade deadline for table scraps four years ago, many would have been surprised and annoyed.
it wasn't a 2nd round pick, it was marc gasol(who had been a 2nd round pick the previous year). add in the lakers 2008 and 2010 1st round picks and you have the deal. kwame brown's expiring contract, 3 late first round picks on cheap contracts, and the rights to a fairly highly thought of european player that costs them nothing if he doesn't pan out. that was the deal. i'm saying that there wasn't a team offering an equal or better combination of expiring contracts and young talent or else a different deal would have happened. right. nba gms would have preferred that they benefited from memphis wanted to dump gasol's salary rather than the lakers benefiting from it. i don't think that's really relevant. richard jefferson was acquired for nothing but expiring contracts. the deal to acquire him was much more lopsided than the one in which the lakers got gasol.
But Jefferson is a much worse player. It's not just a matter of what you give up, it's also about what you get back. While I don't think the Gasol deal was historically bad as some suggest, I do think it was lopsided. Gasol is a 22-25 PER player, a solid All-Star caliber player and near superstar, and the Lakers acquired him in his prime. Jefferson is broken down and barely an average player. Jefferson is reasonable to get for nothing more than expiring contracts. Gasol should cost more than some decent young talent and expirings.
Like I said, we'll agree to disagree. Many GM's thought it wasn't an open auction and they couldn't present their best offer for consideration.
Another GS trade with crazy Nellie there. Miller and Rudy for A Randolph and Vlad. A Randolph is possibly on the block and he is one talented 20 yr old big.
Yeah, same. No matter how much or little Randolph plays, the constant word out of Golden State is that Randolph is the most untouchable player on that roster.
This is by no means concrete, but FWIW: http://www.blazersedge.com/2009/12/15/1201938/anthony-randolph-on-the-block
I still think we should trade RLEC for Jefferson. He could really help us right now. What, it's too late for that? WTF?
