If Steve Blake is so valuable and is such a "glue guy", why aren't teams interested in him? He has a much more favorable contract that's expiring this year. Maybe it's because everybody knows he's not as valuable as the Blazers think. With that said - why not a Blake for Bass trade? Bass isn't playing much in Orlando, he has a very favorable contract going forward (4 mil/year), and he could help us now AND in the future. Orlando might be able to use a backup point-guard who can "hit the three" since Jameer isn't healthy too often. I say we forget about trading Miller and get Blake out of here. In my dreams...
I dunno ... maybe the Magic would go for that, but not until and unless Steve can show that his quarter season slump is over and he's capable of hitting an open three pointer at or around 40%, otherwise they'd be swapping one seldom used big man for a 3rd string point guard who isn't likely to help them much.
Gortat is actually playing LESS than Bass... while I know Howard is in front of him.. he can also play the 4.. so I dont know if they value Bass less than Gortat.. just my thoughts though.
I think the big wrench that was thrown into the equation was Ryan Anderson. I really think Orlando did not know he is as good as he is, either that or they signed Bass as insurance in case he didn't pan out. That being said, he is a much better fit as a backup to Lewis because he plays the game exactly like Lewis does. Outside-In. He is the same height as well. It allows them to sub him in without missing a beat.
Yup. The Magic are all about surrounding Dwight with perimeter threats and playing inside out. Gortat and Bass are some nice insurance pieces, but it's tough to get into the rotation when Howard plays as much as he does and they basically just run with Anderson or Lewis at the 4.
