CONNECTIONS: Kings President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie was drafted in the first round (eighth overall) by the Trail Blazers in the 1970 NBA Draft. Petrie, the 1970-71 Rookie of the Year and two-time NBA All-Star, played six seasons in Portland before a knee injury ended his career. Prior to coming to Sacramento, Petrie worked in the Blazers’ front office from 1984-85 and served as their general manager for four years. Kings Vice President of Basketball Operations Wayne Cooper also played (1982-84 and 1989-92) and worked in the front office (1992-93 and 1993-94). Portland Head Coach Nate McMillan was an assistant coach on current Kings Head Coach Paul Westphal’s staff in Seattle for two seasons before being elevated to interim head coach after 15 games of the 2000-01 season.
