Re: MMA getting sanctioned in Vancouver The biggest issue seemed to be legal liability and insurance. There is a major obstacle at the moment because of an amendment made by the chairperson (?) of the council who thought it was prudent to force the promoters to buy into a $10-million insurance policy for events. Obviously a smoker event with cheap tickets and low attendance would never be able to cover the premium of such an insurance policy (even at 1% that's $100,000). The UFC, according to the chairperson, has a $12-million policy. There are a lot of details to be ironed out including how exactly the athletic commission will oversee and regulate the events but for the time being a major step forward to having the UFC and other MMA shows in BC has been undertaken.
Also, 100% guarantee that when the UFC comes to Vancouver, Denis Kang is on the card. He better get over that dumbass mental block of his.
