Most around here, including me believe that Miller will gain the starting PG position at some point in the season. This leaves Blake and Bayless as the backups. I have not doubt that at the beginning of the season Bayless will play a very limited role on the team and mostly be third string PG/SG.

But, I believe in Bayless, and I believe that he will earn the BU PG role by seasons end. It seems like a lot of people around here have lost hope for Bayless and I have seen many posts including him willy nilly in trade scenarios like he is an absolute throw-in.

I have been a huge Blazer fan for years but have not been one to get caught up in hype. I never thought either Telfair or Webster were going to be anything better than average starters at best. I actually tend to look at prospects with a grain of salt and think of them more as a list of attributes and drawbacks until they prove something. For Bayless, in his favor I would point to age, athleticism, intensity, speed and being a tenacious gym rat. But there are also down sides to Bayless from his short arms to his lack of PG experience.

But for some reason, I tend to overlook the pros and cons that I would normally use to qualify the likelihood of success and instead keep going back to these small one play bursts of genius that He has made several times. Those super aggressive and athletic maneuvers show me something that I often will never see a single time in most of the NBA players. I am having a hard time explaining myself, but I do see it, and I feel confident in predicting that Bayless will become an excellent PG (yes, I said PG) over the next few seasons and I hope to see that start towards the end of this season.

Blake is going to be the backup PG all season. BREX will get very very limited minutes since we're competing for a title.

I hope Golly is right - but I don't see it. At the very best, Bayless will blossom on another team -- as a Randy Foye kind of player.

This team won 54 games with that starting unit. No reason to change it. That is what the man said......

I wonder if he forgot that Joel wasn't the starter all year. He only started in a few more games than Greg did actually.......what did Greg do to lose his job again? And Blake was out for 20% of the teams games.

I remember a poll somewhere after Bayless's rookie summer league MVP offering some approximation of the following choices:
    1. Starting on day one
    2. Not in the starting lineup to begin with, but starting by All-Star break
    3. As above, except by last third of season.

All of them assumed he would (a) be ahead of Sergio, and (b) would play around 20 mpg.
Well, we saw how that worked out. And this year, we have better players ahead of him. And his Summer League was, um, not so great.

    I fully expect:
    (a) that we will pick up an extra PG by the end of training camp.
    (b) whoever that extra PG is, he will be ahead of Bayless in the rotation
    (c) as will Patty Mills (unless he's elsewhere/injured into the season)
    (d) assuming that Bayless isn't traded
    (e) probably for not much.

The bottom line though, our backup PG spot has been upgraded bigtime.

I sure hope we don't waste Bayless's talent.

LOL. Whats his talent? Besides having no court vision, one of the worst jumpers in the league and having short stubby arms??? He can't guard anything but short point guards and he is anything but a point guard in his own right. Anyone who thinks they will ever see Bayless getting even backup minutes is Delusional!!!!!!!!!! Only way that kid goes near the backup spot is if someone is injured. I have no idea what some of you see in this kid. I guess some of u just see him jump high and try and play that And 1 street ball and think that will work in the NBA. Trade him NOW, if you can still get something for him.

I fully expect Bayless to be the backup PG, if Miller or Blake are injured.

Blake will start, Miller will backup.

Bayless will sit, or be traded.

I like Bayless too. But he is going to have to be awfully good to take the place of Blake. And the only way he is going to do that is if drops everything that has happened thus far. Start fresh with a clear head and go out and play with the utmost confidence. If he does that. Than he has a chance.

I just don't see it happening. I am pulling for him though.

You all are crazy. Don't you know KP is somehow going to bamboozle George Shinn into trading CP3 for Bayless, Darius contract (shhhhhhh don't tell George we don't actually hold his rights anymore) and a future conditional second round pick by the trading deadline.

Clearly CP3 will be our new backup point guard behind Blake and Miller our 3rd point guard off the bench.

Due to a recent return, and current events, I think this is very worthy of a bump. Dang his stupid stubby arms...

well, he did have a point that the only way he'd get minutes is if someone was injured. Although I don't think that the players who are injured, were the ones mixum was implying was necessary for jerryd to get minutes.

Given he got 29 minutes tonight and our starting PG got 18, I don't think it matters.

Bayless wasn't getting minutes on the road trip with the injuries in full swing either.
