Take a look at the current Rockets team; where did they come from? Battier? Trade for ?? (Not a superstar) Scola? From San Antonio for Udrih? Landry? Low draft pick Brooks? Low draft pick Lowry? Scrap heap. Hayes? Low draft pick. Warriors? Randolph (14th); Curry (7th); Ellis (2nd rd.); Maggette (worst K in league, now); CJ, D-Leaguer, should have been allowed to go to Orlando. Difference? Morey/Adelman >>>>>>>>>>> Nellie. By a mile.
A lot of the Rocket's success was attributed to the culture change Shane Battier brought to the franchise. The Rockets are really defined by the "team concept" and "defense first" philosophy. Nellie's system leads to selfish play and defense is an after thought.
Can't agree with you there. Adleman was a joke here. Benched Hardaway for BJ Armstrong and started Kersey (who could barely run up and down the court) over Chris Mullin. Give Nellie the same roster and I think he still wins. They're the type of players that he loves actually, scrappers. Nelly is the guy who year after year pulls D-Leaguers and 10-Day Contract Guys and makes them into players. The guys that Adleman is playing are basketball players, not freak athletes who are raw.
Nelson was a bigger joke than Adelman and is a bigger joke today . If Nelson ran the Rockets, he would trade Yao and end up destroying the wonderful chemistry they got. The team can't keep playing small and help D forever and eventually will go to their big man. It is a team in transition, but yet Rick Adelman has them playing well together and they may have the best chemistry in the league. Contrast that to your fat dumb bastard (FDB) Nelson who ends up feuding with his star players and destroying chemistry on the team. Hardaway was screwed over by Nelson after he got hurt. And Nelson was run out of town the first time because of the roster and all the upheaval he caused on it. Hardaway was part of that upheaval and became a casualty -- he was traded away. That's another one of the FDB trade marks. Just like today, Nelson made the playoffs once, but destroyed the team in the process. OTOH Adelman had to pick up the pieces from the FDB during his stint with GSW. He was much maligned in the process because he liked to play a set eight-man rotation and the Warriors did not win. Adelman is a much more successful coach than the FDB will ever be. His teams get to the the playoffs more than the FDB and he has a better winning percentage. As for the D-leaguers and 10-day contract guys, those are the players we got now and who Nelson is playing. Nelson does not develop our top draft picks or key trade acquisitions unless they're FDB players. Those players are few and far in-between and they end up burning out because they're playing out of position. I'm going to guess you don't play basketball. I've played out of position and it's not much fun on the defensive end. I just end up staying out of the paint. I can only imagine how rough it is in the NBA. Basketball is not just played on the offensive end of the floor, but the FDB does not get it. What we need to do is get rid of the FDB and his stooge Larry Riley pronto and hire someone like Rick Adelman and Daryl Morey. Then the Warriors would develop their draft picks and play them the first year. We may end up with a few ROYs. Instead, we got your FDB and his stooge and the results have been the cellar. We're even lower than the LA Clippers and Sacramento. I think Sacramento is a team on the rise. We are watching a bad reality show in GSW under Don Nelson and Larry Riley and the situation is about to become worse imo.
Check your history on the Nelson and Hardaway thing. It was Adleman that brought in BJ and benched him and forced him to be moved. And to your point about Nelson not developing players, that's exactly my point. Nelly likes well-rounded team players who play hard (the same type of players that are starting and winning in Houston). McGrady would've been the guy run out of town, which is pretty much what Adleman did too. Nowhere did I mention that Nelly would've developed the team that Houston has. I said that he'd do as good of a job coaching them, because they are the type of player that he likes, scrappers. Whether or not Yao would've worked is a moot point, because he's not playing right now anyway. Hate him as much as you like, call him names (he deserves it) but Adleman was no better than Nelly, in fact he destroyed the team much quicker than Nelly did. I still say that Cohan is the cancer, not Nelly.
Someone explain how Casspi and Evans are getting huge minutes and the Kings are winning games yet Randolph and Curry cannot develop??
