Last year defenses figured out Bayless after he had a few good games and he faded down the stretch. It seems he is fading again and has hit a brick wall. After the Suns game he has not shot the ball well from the field other than the Spurs game where he shot (10/24 for 41.7%) Orlando 3/13 10 points Miami 2/6 6 points Dallas 3/8 9 points San Antonio 10/24 31 points Denver 2/10 8 points Philly 0/7 2 points Roy can't always carry the scoring load and needs help. Bayless can score but he needs to shoot a better percentage.
Well, he's going to get an extended audition to see if he can figure it out. Part of Jerryd's process of the league adjusting to him is Jerryd learning to adjust to the league ... hopefully the coaching staff can pinpoint areas where he needs work and he'll be able to read and react accordingly as time goes on.
He's going to have ups/downs. He's not as good (at least not yet) as he was against SA, and he's not as bad as he's been in the last 2 games.
He is doing fine passing, he just lost his shot again. It isn't him figuring out the league as it is him trying to work on his shot. He gets that down, he has to keep his man honest and by doing that, he can blow right by him if he plays tight defense.
Well he is going to have to find that shot, and hit it, and hit it regularly if he is to be a success in this league. Without that shot he can be stopped...easily.
Ya, I agree, he is missing the jumpers that open his game up so much. If they are not dropping teams are going to back off of him.
It's actually more than that. Defenses are now playing him differently, they are almost conceding the lane so they Jerryd doesn't draw a foul, but are lurking behind him and to the side so they can cap him when he commits to his drive to the cup. Hitting that pull-up jumper is important too, but he's still got a lot of growing to do as a player.
Just got home from the game. Bayless was a complete disaster tonight. Him, our poor freethrow shooting, Roy shooting too many threes, and no Pendergraph late is why we lost the game.
That's what I see too. Denver didn't sag off JB - they threw double teams at him all night. Keep throwing him out there Nate - he'll adjust.
LOL how did I know this thread was coming. Shit is so predictable around these parts. Look, the guy doesn't get consistent minutes, when he does, he excels, he just needs more time w/the starters to get a rhythm. No need to be the "flavor of the game/week/month poster" on us and call for a trade. If anything you guys should be bitching about LMA. Where the fuck was he last night and our free throws. Bayless has the tenacity to figure it out and get it working. Don't jump ship every game like KS.
As I mentioned in my other thread, I think they now all have more intel on him and how he wants to play. Teams are playing him better because they know what he wants to do. He will have to adjust his game.
Bayless needs to watch how Roy or Parker creates space for their shot then do the same. Not that that is an easy task. Far from it. But the way Bayless wants to attack the rim he is going to have to figure out how to protect the ball.
Growing 3 inches isn't in the cards. But he can learn how to reverse under the basket or try and finish with his off hand. Taking it straight at the chest of the tallest guy on the court isn't a winning strategy.
A couple of plays last night he was blocked, but there was no foul called. Then since he was slowed down, he got dominated by the big men...
