I got goosebumps . The Warriors’ organization is expecting a very special guest on Monday when the Cleveland Cavaliers visit Oracle Arena. No not LeBron James. We’re talking about Larry Ellison, a man long-rumored to be interested in buying the Warriors and the co-founder and CEO of Oracle Corporation, the franchise’s biggest corporate sponsor. Ellison, who has never been inside the building before, is expected to be sitting courtside, across from the Warriors’ bench, with his nephew. Warriors team president Robert Rowell confirmed that Ellison is expected on Monday, but he also said that Ellison had planned to see games twice before in the past three years but each time had a change of plans. Rowell, who has never met Ellison, said he cancelled a trip to New York for league meetings this weekend in order to be at Monday’s game. Ellison’s visit is likely to fuel speculation about the possibility of Warriors owner Chris Cohan selling the team, but Rowell said: “I wouldn’t read anything into it. He’s the CEO of the company that is our biggest corporate sponsor. Of course we’re going to roll out the red carpet for him.” Ellison, listed by Forbes as the fourth-richest person in the world, had been expected at Oracle twice before – both times for Warriors-Lakers games. Let's chant, "Buy the team!" while avoid chanting anything negative since we don't want Ellison to fear being a potential target of the fans one day. His ego and all.
Oh man, that would be priceless if the whole crowd started chanting that, CR2. Of course, Cohan wouldn't have to feel embarrassed because he's never at the games anyway, and nobody even knows what he looks like. I think I got a glimpse of him once during the draft one year... No, that must have been a phantom...
Oh man, how I wish that could happen. Half the crowd will be Cavs fans though, and I bet a lot of people will just be casual fans and not know anything. I wonder if Fitzgerald or Barnett will talk about him.
My boss will be sitting courtside I think next to or very near to Ellison as he also sits across from the Warriors' bench in what the W's ticket sales people said "the owners' seat."
Can you imagine the announcer announcing Larry Ellison as a special guest in the audience like a George Lucas? The crowd would go wild. Stop the game. Standing ovation for five minutes. And then announcing on his right is YOUR Golden State Warriors owner Chris Cohan. Suddenly the crowd turns and boos and catcalls reign and trash, debris and garbage get thrown on the floor. Game canceled due to maintenance issues . The best idea I heard was t-shirts given to attendees saying "Larry, Please Buy the Team" or "Sell the Team Cohan" or something to that effect. It would be another We Believe moment .
