Blake, Outlaw, and Fernandez for Luol Deng? I'd do Blake and Outlaw alone, but Portland would have to throw in a contract of Fernandez' size to make the deal work under the CBA.
Blake and Webster works... much rather do that-not sure Bulls would. There is no way Rudy is a throw-in unless the deal is for a real marquee player.
Yes. Don't listen to those that are homers and say no. Blake and Outlaw shouldn't be re-signed after the season, so in reality it's Rudy for Deng, and this team needs Deng more than Rudy. Deng can play the 3 and 4, and is a better defender
why do you want a very expensive and oft injured Deng when Martel is finally blossoming and Batum is due back very soon? Makes no sense man especially when our GLARING need is a solid PF/C for now and the future given Oden and Pryz's big question marks.
No homer here. I just think that Rudy is more valuable than just a salary to make a trade for an oft-injured and overpaid player like Deng. Salary not being an issue, Rudy for Deng straight up would be fine w/ me. I think Outlaw will be re signed on the cheap after his injury- which will be a good thing. Why trade him as a cheap expiring when his value will be lower than normal due to a (possibly) season ending injury? Just based on the pieces that would have to be involved from Portland's end, I don't make this trade. Too many years left on Deng's bloated contract. We need a consolidation, but why not shoot for Haywood (position of greater need) or Butler (upgrade)?
I'd do the trade since Deng is putting up nice stats and could really hurt opposing teams that chose to aggressively double team Roy.
I agree with this. blake is expendable at this point and webster is never going to be consistent enough for me. rudy has upside still and value. deng is injured a lot and has an expensive contract so he is only attractive if he comes at a lower price.
You do know that Luol Deng > Kobe Bryant, right? Oh, and how's it working out for Ben Gordon in Detroit these days? As for the trade: hmm. I like Deng but he's injury-prone. On the plus side, he puts up monster numbers at the 4, and he had that one great series against Miami. On the minus side I really like Rudy as a player, and I think trading Outlaw would be a major morale mistake. Outlaw is the soul of this team, which is otherwise composed of mostly introverts. Would you do this trade (which works, but gives Chicago less cap space this Summer): Deng for Blake and Webster? OR, to be bolder: Deng and Hinrich for Przybilla, Andre Miller, Blake and Webster ?
That second deal, with Joel and Andre hardly gives Chicago any more cap space at all. The point would be for them to clear cap space in the deal. As for the original deal, if you'd do Blake and Outlaw alone, Blake, Outlaw Mills and Cunningham works.
Deng > Rudy. But he's always hurt. And his contract is very Lamarcus-ish. I'm not a "Rudy Guy" per say, but we do need to have shooters around Roy and Bayless - no question. Take away Blake, Outlaw, Rudy and that pretty much leaves Martell - who isn't a consistent shooter. You might say that you can get a mid-level guy this summer that can bomb, or trade for one . . . I don't know. It doesn't do you a lot of good to go out and get a guy like Reddick or Kopono that are one dimensional. I wouldn't say the shooters we have now are "complete players", but they have some other value. I'll pass on Deng.
Batum shot the same % from deep last year as Martell's career number so... LA and Dante are also solid perimeter shooters though they are usually a step or two inside the 3 point line. They spread the court nonetheless. btw... Aldridge is currently shooting 71% from 3's STOMP
Absolutely. and I'd do it yesterday. Edit: Deng is capable of playing small ball 4, has shooting range almost out to the 3 point line, rebounds pretty well for a 3/4 and while he is making a fair amount of money, I'd rather pay him 10-11 million a year versus paying Blake, Travis and Rudy a combined 9 million and have trouble finding minutes for everybody. If you're really worried about a log jam at the 3 just consider that either Nic or Martell have the defensive chops to play some backup shooting guard behind Brandon, and what it does most of all in my opinion is give this team some real versatility on the wing defensively and the ability to play "small" without being tiny and finally gives this team a pretty well defined 8-9 man rotation, with our 3 second round picks kept around for some emergency depth. (Bold=major rotation player) Miller/Bayless/Mills Roy/Martell Deng/Nic LMA/Deng/Cunningham Oden/Joel/Pendergraph
In a heart beat. I'm sure things could be arranged to allow Portland to keep Fernandez, if he weren't key for Chicago. But even with Fernandez...absolutely.
+1 Deng is a big time player. He's in that same, probably never gonna be an all-star but is still really really good, category that I put LaMarcus in. Even when we were healthy this team was often just Brandon, LaMarcus and a bunch of other guys. It would be pretty sweet if the team was Brandon, Deng, LaMarcus and a bunch of other guys.
Yes please! Sexy nine man rotation! I think with Martell stepping up, and Bayless getting more minutes, Rudy in the second unit isn't quite expendable, but he isn't as necessary as last season. I'd put him in a trade for Deng. I'm not even sure he will re-sign with us. I wouldn't mind keeping Rudy, but that seems like the nice consolidation trade (that brings us back a nice piece) that we need, IMO.
I thought I read somewhere that Deng has a broken Thumb. That means he has had a major injury every single season since he signed that big contract. Deng when healthy would be cool. I just am not sure he would be. It might be worth the risk though. I would hem and haw over it and then probably pull the trigger. Getting Blake out of town I consider a bonus.
