Ives with a good preview here. My favorites are Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Egypt. Here is some info on watching the tournament in the US and Canada. In ACN news, the tournament got off to a rough start today as the bus carrying Emanuel Adebayor and Togo was shot at by Angolan rebels in a move that the Angolan government is calling an act of terrorism. More details are out (from the Sun) which indicate the death of the bus driver. Two players and two from the medical team were injured and there was, according to one player, "a lot of blood on the ground." There isn't much to report beyond that as the men were taken to different hospitals.
The tournament kicked off about 33 minutes ago with Angola taking on Mali. You could argue that Mali has a stronger midfield on the bench with Mohamed Sissoko and Seydou Keita than Angola has on the pitch. This tournament will always be remembered for the events that took place earlier in the week, but its good to see the team's there getting back to football.
Unbelievable. Angola were 4-0 until the 79' minute where Keita (2), Kanoute, Yatabare made it 4-4 in a matter of 10 minutes. Amazing.
Monday's results: Malawi 3 - 0 Algeria Ivory Coast 0 - 0 Burkina Faso Ghana P - P Togo Togo's failure to appear for their match has seen them removed from the tournament. The team immediately decided to leave, then chose to stay, then left Angola on Saturday, but asked for their spot to remain open. The two results are both very surprising. Malawi is a modest footballing nation to say the least and their destruction of Algeria is pleasing to fans of the US and England with the World Cup in mind. Burkina Faso tying Ivory Coast is a huge shock. At the moment however, there hasn't been a ruling on what to do with the match involving Togo as it isn't your typical forfeiture, so the one point might not hurt.
