Just got back from watching it............ AWESOME!!!
I thought it was ok. I thought it was visually stunning, as I love post-apocalyptic stuff. The world the directors created was wonderful. However, I just couldn't get past some of the inconsistancies to completely love the film.
Finally got to see this movie, and I have to say it's nothing special. Definitely deserves a look with a great cast(Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman) and the two directing brothers have skills. Much better than the Road, but if I were you I'd save my money and wait till it comes out on DVD.
I enjoyed both movies, and I think it is important to point out that they are very different. First you should not see The Road unless you have read the book first IMHO, mainly because it is a quick and interesting read. Second The Book of Eli is simply an action movie with a semi interesting plot/twist. The Road has a much deeper plot IMO, but it also has a lot less eye candy. I would rec watching both, but not expecting the same experience at all.
I wasn't a big fan of the ending for this movie, but the rest was pretty compelling right up until the last fifteen minutes. The plot twist at the end just didn't work, he never behaved even remotely like he "should have" throughout the movie if he had that particular trait.
Exactly. That was one of the inconsistencies I spoke of before. In addition to the fact that it's been roughly 30 years, yet there is still enough gas to ride around on motorcycles, and he managed to maintain a supply of freaking wet-naps. It would have been much more believable if it had been 5-10 years afterwards. I would think that 30 years after the fact, either society would have started to rebuild itself, or gone completely the other direction--no clothes, etc. After all, there is no cotton, I didn't see any sheep, so wool is probably out of the question. You're telling me those clothes they were all wearing were 30 years old, and in addition to being in decent shape, fit just right? Come on.
