Coakley is the canary in the coal mine, as far as Democrats are concerned. It's the economy stupid. Looks like another throw the bums out movement.
Exactly the opposite. In an economy that's lost millions of jobs, govt. massively spending at a deficit, and the issue being a $1T tax hike (at the wrongest of times), the people are pretty smart. Nah, the people are fucking dumb, really fucking dumb, if they think somebody can just snap their fingers and fix the unbelievable mess that is our economy. I'm not a huge fan of everything the Democrats have done since taking over full control, but expecting anything more, in terms of economic recovery, in such a short period of time is downright retarded.
I think the feeling is that we have to stop digging the hole deeper. The Democrats have been nothing but a huge disappointment, and Obama's hugely underperformed expectations. The one republican vote in the senate means no legislation can be rammed down everyone's throats, that Obama will have to listen to and deal with opposing viewpoints. In fact, I see this as a huge gain for Obama. Clinton as governor went against the peoples' economic interests and was not reelected. When he was reelected later, he figured it out and turned out to be pretty good (if not terribly corrupt). As president, he had control of house and senate and tried to ram through health care reform and republicans surged to control of both houses. The result was Clinton's triangulating which turned his presidency from a very bad one into an excellent one and got him reelected. Here's hoping the same happens for Obama.
Hope! Change! Yes We Can! I love that those slogans work on both sides. Fucking fantastic. The most partisan state in the Union either way gives a 5 percentage point victory for a Republican in a three way race. That's a comparative landslide.
MSNBC is the best network on television right now. Rachel Maddow and Howard Dean just managed to blame this Coakley loss on Bush. You can't make this stuff up.
Some news from Obama's home town to amuse us. http://www.suntimes.com/news/24-7/1998572,cop-nipple-charges-filed0119.article Police: Man charged with biting cop, grabbing holster Near North District officers who were already in the area saw a disturbance and a struggle, during which the officer identified himself as police but Cooper allegedly continued to refuse “verbal commands,’’ and bit the officer, prompting responding officers to deploy a chemical spray at Cooper, the report said. The officer suffered swelling and cuts to eye along with a severe bite to the nipple.
So what was the rallying call? "No - I won't stand aside and let you take hard-earned money from the rich and use it to pay for health care for the poor - I couldn't live with myself!" Yeah, this guy sounds like a real winner:
the teabaggers are celebrating!!!! relax boys!!!! maybe the dems get really fired up and push through a plan with a public option with the 51 votes and the simple majority.
