Good news! I have to admit I knew nothing about him or his game before he joined us. I love what he brings this squad. Hope he is with us for a long time.
I think Dante got a 2 year deal to begin with. They just wanted to be careful with Jeff-P because of his injury.
So we are looking at a Golden State/Gilbert Arenas type situation after next season. Not very smart. They could have at least given him another two years so we have the option of outpaying everyone else.
No. That's not true. We retain the right to match any offer made to him, even if all we have is our MLE and aren't under the cap.
JP is good and all but he isn't one quarter the player Arenas was for Golden State. I don't think Portland will be as over the barrel as GS was that year.
And I seem to remember they changed the rule so that this couldn't happen again. I believe, as CTC said, that we can match any offer regardless of how big the offer is.
Love Pendy's game. The aggressiveness combined with his funny, goofy attitude will make him a fan favorite for a long time to come. Of course I don't feel that he has a ton of upside, but he has been a very serviceable backup and I think we can expect to see his defense get better and better as he adjusts to the League. Great 2nd rounder!
I'm pretty sure we actually have an option on his contract for a 3rd season as well. So as long as he plays in half our games next season, we'll get him for a 3rd season, and have full bird rights.
Yeah, I love this guy. He is exactly the backup PF many of us have been asking for. There was a sequence in the Washington game where he set a bone-crushing pick on one side of the key, turned and set a hard pick on the other side of the key, then followed it up down the court with good defense then out fought everyone for the rebound, all in less than 30 seconds. It was beautiful.
Agreed, but I think his defensive ability is limited to not much better than it is now. He is very slow of foot (possibly due to the hip injury; I never watched him in college) and probably will be a Kurt Thomas type player on that end of the court. A bruising presence, but not particularly effective on D outside of a team concept.
