You know he's got lots of layers. On the surface he's a three point specialist. Under that is an insecure child just yearning for acceptance, terrified of pressure. Under that is a 24 point third quarter we'll be talking about on the day he dies. Under that is a guy is a guy with no midrange game. Under that is a guy who finally figured out how to finish around the rim. Under that may be a guy who completely disappears when Batum comes back. How about "Parfait"? Everybody likes parfait.
If there is one adjustment I would have Martell make it is to loose the flip shot. When you are that close to the hoop, and that athletic, there is no reason not to dunk it.
He's like an onion. I propose Walla Walla Sweet. He's from Washington, has a sweet looking jumper and has many layers like an onion. BNM
I kind of like tell. Last name is webster which is a dictionarey that tells you the defintion of the word. Hell if Webster turns all star we can spice up the nickname "tell, the truth" Time will tell if the nickname sticks . . .
At one point this season when Martell was really struggling I would call him "Should Be CP3". His recent excellent play has reduced the sting somewhat but I don't think I will ever be fully happy with that mistake.
Yeah, that was John Nash's biggest blunder, among many, as Blazers GM. Still it's not Martell's fault Nash passed on Chris Paul and Deron Williams to take him. I'd hate to see the kid saddled with a nickname like "Could've" - as in we "Could've" had our choice of Chris Paul and Deron Williams. I thought Martell was poised to have a breakout season last year prior to the foot injury and I'm very glad to see the way he's been playing lately. With all of his physical gifts, I've held out hope he'll be a good NBA player - not a great one like Chris Paul, but a valuable contributor. Even if he's not, he shouldn't be held responsible for John Nash's stupidity. He's a good kid and I hope he'll eventually be an important part of something special here in Portland. BNM
The only good nickname for Martell Webster is "That bust that we should never have taken instead of Chris Paul!!! WHY GOD WHY?!?!?!?!" Seriously though, I agree with the OP in that I like what I'm seeing out of Martell. And we could even say that he would fit into the role that Glen Rice had with the Lakers during that fateful 99-00 season. Roy = Kobe, Oden = Shaq, Webster = Glen Rice.
Well, we didn't really pass on Paul and Williams. We traded down. Paul and Williams were gone when we picked Webster. Still a stupid move by Nash though. With that said, Webster still has a chance to be a very good player in the league and he's a good character guy as well.
Nash doubled down on his belief in his first selection (Telfair) from the previous year rather then go with the obvious top talents projected to be available, and gambled on the local wild card Martell. Martell's famous workout with short non-defenders Rashad McCants & Nate Robinson danced in the echo chamber between Nash's ears. Unsubstantiated rumors had Nash overruling his Assistant GM in charge of scouting for a 2nd strait year in passing on the opportunity to draft Chris Paul. understandably he's been free to pursue other opportunities for a while now STOMP
No, we passed on Paul and Williams. Make no mistake about it. We just did it before the actual picks were selected, but the reason we traded the pick was because the next three BPAs starting at the No. 3 pick were all PGs. It was common knowledge that Milwaukee was taking Bogut at No. 1 and Atlanta was taking Marvin Williams at No 2. That left Paul, Williams and Felton as the next three best players available. After wasting a lottery pick on Telfair the previous year, Nash was convinced we didn't need a PG. So, he chose to pass on taking Williams or Paul by trading the pick to Utah, who coveted Williams and moving down to take Webster. BNM
Tell doesn't have the drive that Batum has. Notice that Batum announced he would play tonight, and McMillan was left to say, well, uh, I guess I approve. Tell would have asked permission. Dependence upon authority is how he earned his nickname--he looks like he's whining, "I'm going to tell!!" One thing is for sure, Tell is no Dale Ellis, McMillan's backcourt mate.
GlazedDuck posted on the ESPN board at least back to about 2004. He posted infrequently, as he will probably do here, so he had a low post count. He puts one D in his name, but when I used to answer his posts, I liked to put in a double D.
Boob- you probably won't even read this message since this is the first time I've posted here. I just joined today so clearly in your eyes that'll mean my opinion isn't relevant, but I'd like you to instruct me on the ignore function so I can immediately put you on ignore. I lost any respect I might have had for you in reading your ridiculous responses in this thread. You claim that you are justified in ignoring Glazeduck because he asked you to "deal" with the fact that he liked calling Martell "tell". First of all, I think it's a stretch to even CALL this a nickname. It's an abbreviation of Martell's name, no different than calling Andre Miller "Dre" or Nicolas Batum "Nic". While I'm new here, I suspect you don't rove every thread telling every poster who uses those abbreviated "nicknames" that they're "the dumbest nickname you've ever heard of". Additionally, I'm curious, aside from starting an asinine conversation of whether or not "Tell" is an acceptable nickname for Martell (I happen to be fond of it because that's what my fiancee calls him), how was your initial post or the response in which you informed Glaze that he would be ignored supposed to provide ANY sort of positive contribution to this thread? Additionally, if the OP was THAT annoying to you, why even bother responding? Wouldn't it have been easier for you to just move on? It appears to me, a fresh set of eyes, that this was blatant bullying on your part, in short, you were a dick to this guy for no other reason. What's even worse, at least in my opinion, is that several pages later, you ACTUALLY HAD AN OPINION on the point of the original post!!! If I was Glazeduck I'd be infuriated. Why not just post that in the first place and keep your feelings on something as stupid as a nickname to yourself? What good did starting Sh*t w/ GDuck do to ANYONE? What if one day, Glaze has some actual breaking news to post? Don't you think it's a little silly that you would miss it simply because he defended his opinion on something as non-issueish as a nickname?! And why the hyperbole?!? I highly highly HIGHLY doubt that "Tell" is the dumbest nickname you've ever heard. So again, why? What did you get out of telling Glazeduck that? Did it make you feel cool because you don't know his entire personality based on the fact that he doesn't post 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and is therefor somehow a lesser member of this board than you? You're a dick bro. My buddy told me this was a good board, and I've been reading posts here for a little while now, but this thread made me sign up. We're all Blazer fans, we all love our boys. Why start sh*t w/ one another, just for the sake of doing it? Just one new guy who doesn't deserve your attention based on my post count's opinion...
Sure, no problem. Welcome to the forum. To place me on ignore, first click on the UserCP link in the red menu bar across the top of the page. That takes you to your User Control Panel. In the menus down the left side of your screen, click on the Edit Ignore List link in the Settings & Options section. Type Boob-No-More in the Add a Member to Your List... box and then click on the Okay button. That's all there is to it. You'll never see any of my posts again. Hope that helps with your enjoyment of the forum. Have a nice day. BNM
