It's someone's fault that his PFs are taking 20-foot contested jumpers late in the clock. If not his, who? Or his PG is backing down in the paint against a sagged-in defense and not passing to shooters. Who called that play?

It's almost funny (yet more sad) how excuses are brought up with L's.

Oh, I am sorry, I forgot we cannot call out Nate here. Who was it that led the Blazers back into the game once they were 16 down? The second unit you say? Correct! Blake is one Blazer who should not have come back in the 4th either Rudy stays in or Bayless comes in. I would have preferred Miller/Bayless/Rudy especially if the plan was to give Bayless the last shot. If he got to play, he would have been much more in rythum, but that was not the case. Sorry for calling out the coach when it is deserved! I will remember not to next time!

In both cases I would assume the PG is to blame.

What play would you have drawn up?

Miller in the post with Blake in the weakside corner seemed as high of a percentage play as we had considering the roster. The shot Miller took late in the game was one he makes all the time and rimmed in and out.

    Looking forward to your play...

I'm pretty sure that in the middle of the 4th quarter, Nate has no idea it is going to come down to a last shot by the Blazers to win or that he would use Bayless in that situation.

I'm also pretty sure you are in fact allowed to critize Nate if you wish. I didn't see anything in the rules against it and even though a mod said you couldn't do it, I think he was joking.

You are also allowed to use as many exclamation marks as you want to . . . but you already know that. :D

Well, yes, but it came to that situation. I don't mind Miller and Webster being in, but Blake had no business coming in. The way Bayless and Rudy were playing they should have stayed in (plus Bayless was playing excellent D on Paul as well which that alone should have let him stayed in). I don't know, I just feel awful for the Blazers and Bayless because that looked good the second his left his hand, just missed it. Bayless shouldn't have been put in that situation IMO because of him being on the bench most of the 4th. Just adds on his career as more of a choker than not which is ashame.

I'm looking forward to the postgame interviews and hearing the coach explain why it was a good idea to try to win the game by bringing in a cold player off the bench and hand him the ball with three seconds left to jack up a jumper.

Maybe its because he can't get his sixty million dollar power forward to shoot the ball.

With Houston and SA losing at home tonight, we had a chance to put more distance between us n them in the standings. These are the types of losses that come back to haunt you at the end of the season. Just terrible execution the last 4 minutes. Pathetic. Just pray that we can pull off a miracle and beat the Jazz, who are playin some pretty damn good ball as of late.

Because I'm sure he wanted a player that could easily create his own shot, and Bayless is probably the best available option, plus he was having a good game.

Bayless got a great look and the ball was on line to go in...it just went a tad long. It happens, on to the next game.

    Bingo...

Had we gone to Miller or Blake, the question would be why didn't we go to someone who could create their own shot, like Bayless. In 3.9 seconds, you only have so many options, especially with the speed limitations of our guards.

I don't think many hold this against Bayless. I get where Nate was coming from. Only 4 seconds left and at this stage only Miller and Bayless have shown the ability to create their own shot or draw a foul. With so little time and refs reluctant to call bail out fouls at the end of the game, Bayless seem like the right choice. Either get to the rim or pull up for the jumper.

I see it as a learning experience for Bayless . . . can't really fault him for the loss.

I saw your willing to cut Bayless a break for missing the shot, but not willing to cut Nate a break for having to deal with a thin and very unbalanced roster?

Definitely wasn't Bayless' fault. I like that he wasn't afraid to take the shot, and it was a good look that he probably makes most of the time. Just overall poor execution down the stretch, and I strongly disagree with taking Rudy out of the game for those last few minutes, he was the main reason we built the 9 point lead with 2 minutes left.
