Hughes and his award<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>CLEVELAND, May 2nd -Cavaliers guard Larry Hughes has been named the first recipient of the Austin Carr Good Guy Award, presented by the local chapter of the Pro Basketball Writers Association (PBWA). Along with his mother, Vanessa, Hughes established ?The Larry Hughes Foundation?, which is dedicated to educating the public about organ donation. During the 2005-06 season, his foundation donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross in his hometown of St. Louis for the Hurricane Katrina Relief efforts and donated 14 new televisions to the families at New Life Community in Cleveland.Hughes, who signed with the Cavaliers on August 2, 2005, played in 36 games this season and averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 35.6 minutes per game. In eight seasons in the NBA, the veteran guard has career averages of 15.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 480 games. </div>Well. Isn't that nice?Anyways, how is everyone's overall view of Hughes this season and so far in the playoffs? I know he has been hurt the whole season and out a lot of it, but I want to see what kind of impression he left on everyone. Are you happy with him being signed? Do you wish we didn't? Do you think he was a waste of money? Now that we are coming to a close on the year and have ended the season, what do you as Cavs fans (and you other guys too) think about the season and the signing of Hughes?

Honestly, I haven't really seen him play all that much when he was healthy earlier in the season, but the few games I did watch he was a great compliment to LeBron. He can create his own shot, score 20+ points a night, be a distributor and a creator, and a very good defender. I think the Cavs have their 1-2 punch for the future, now all they need to work on is surrounding these guys with the talent they need to succeed.

Nice thing to do from the League. He really dedicated alot of himself to his brother. Just helping his brother out, reassuring him, becoming good friends with him. This is a really sad day for Hughes and any NBA fan in my mind.I can tell that he has a very tight connection with his family. This will really hurt. Great guy and great player. I wish him all the luck. Hopefully he will be able to come up strong next season.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BBoy Ken @ May 10 2006, 08:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>god I hate him! He's went down in everything since being traded to us and he cant defend anybody anymore. it really pray that we trade this guy. I dont know what you expected from him with those 2 factors holding him back. Usually it would be fine to want him traded but now is not the time. His brother just passed away, show some respect please.

I love Larry Hughes. And for the guy who said he hates Hughes because his numbers went down is not a true fan and is a stat-freak. He is a 20 point scorer who can create his own shot as well as create a shot for his teammates. He is a good defender who has quick hands, and he can also play both guard positions and be either a scorer or a set-up man. He's very affective and very helpful to the Cavs.

And to the guy complaining about his numbers: There is a big difference between Arenas, Jamison, HAYWOOD, JEFFRIES, and THOMAS to LeBron, Big Z, Gooden, Snow, Marshall, and Murray as well as a completely different system. He may not have been 100% all year but he has been struggling with injuries all year long as well.

He sucks.</div>Wow, have you watched the games? I mean, you can hate him if you want. You can want to trade him if you want, but to say he has done nothing for the team and he sucks, that is crazy.First of all keep this little thing in mind, Hughes was hurt the whole regular season. He "sprained" his finger in the preseason and they found out it was really broken. He was playing the whole time with a broken finger and still doing pretty well considering that. I bolded that so you made sure you read that part about his finger being broken the whole season.Hughes has had some nice plays and great games for the Cavs at the begining of the season. He had a pretty much game winner in the like second game against the Pacers (the first game the Pacers pretty much killed us). He has had some tight defense at the start of the season too. He doesn't suck, he is just hurt and playing for a new team and system.Hughes, when he came back from injury isn't fully in the swing of things yet. His mind is working a little slower than usual and will remain so untill he can get some games under his belt. I had though that once the playoffs started he would be ready, but he didn't do as good as Hughes in the past has done in the playoffs yet. Also keep in mind, he has had a lot on his mind with his brother and all.I am overall pretty happy with Hughes. Don't trade him. He has done well for the team even with being handicapped during the season. He will be better next season as well.

When you put up 15 ppg even while undergoing a huge injury your not to bad.Of course he is nothing like the old Hughes that Cleveland thought they were getting but with the right rest and recovery I can see him being at least 80% of the player he was supposed to be.
