8 models of toyotas are being recalled, pretty historic for the auto industry. fuck! that's nuts. Not only recalled, they STOPPED selling the models. http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/video?id=7017760 Pretty fucking freaky....accelerator stuck, they all died. This issue was known a few months ago I believe...i wonder if they did the "Ford Pinto Cost/Benefit Analysis".
I'm glad my recall (207,000 vehicles was an easy one (fire risk). 98 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (Supercharged). Yes, I know the Pontiac name plate is dead.
Wow, that was a fucked up 911 call. I think if this ever happened to me, I'd try to put the car in neutral, blow the engine, and slam on the breaks.
My take on Toyota: they spent so much engineering on their hybrids that they missed the small things (i.e. accelerator recall).
Sounded like an older guy. I'm an older guy, but I would have blown the motor before going through an intersection. Sounds like total panic.
If your rpm's are high and you shift into neutral it revs high and may blow the engine. I would turn the key off and shift to neutral.
Just put your lips around the crankshaft and move your head up and down. Well, then maybe you'll need to try something more exotic than blowing it. What kind of freaky? Maybe it wants several guys in it at once? Lots of leather? Does it want you to go into the "outback"? barfo
Please understand that Toyota killed this officer and his family. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/driveon/post/2009/10/620000514/1 Also, these cars have actual shifters in the passenger compartment but they are almost all electronic now and many won't allow the car to go into neutral at high revs to save THE ENGINE from being killed. Tough shit for the passengers. I will never buy a car with drive by wire bullshit.
IIRC, the Audi 5000 had this same problem in the 1980s. It was possible for your foot to slip off the brake pedal and get wedged on the gas pedal. It was called "unintended acceleration", so people excoriated Audi for having a bad transmission, but in the end it was just wide feet. They widened the distance between the pedals, and voila, the problem was solved.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Lexus will be recalled next. Here's the recall on the floor mats too with Ennis and Ennis, PA Lawyers. www.ennislaw.com/toyota_floor_mat_recall.html This is a lot of gas pedals. 3.8 million! Check out the link below. This is Dated November 25, 2009! Toyota really fucked up to fix this issue as they state here that its the floor mat!. Wrong! ! http://www2.wspa.com/spa/News/local/article/toyota_to_replace_3.8m_gas_pedals/30191/
