Why do New Englanders say idear for idea and caw for car? Fargo-ites say aboat for about? Southerners say Y'all for all of you? These are all regional differences so probably not the same as modern ebonics which seem to be an urban preference among the poorer class only. We Oregonians have our own language also. We say filberts instead of hazelnuts.

When I was at the U of O I was surprised how many people begin a sentence as though they're halfway through exhaling. Kind of a low monotone. I called it Bakedspeak. Even if you weren't stoned, you eventually found yourself talking like you were just from it rubbing off on you.
