^^ Agree. Of a team with Blake/Sergio, Roy, Durant, Zach and LMA, I don't know that we even have one All-Star from that group, unless maybe if Durant took the ball and everyone else supported.
I disagree. Zach is splitting time with Gasol in Memphis, and Gasol is probably having a better year than Aldridge.
For this year, it would be sweet to have Durant. If we could trade Oden for Durant just for this year, I'd do it. I don't think, however, that Roy/Durant/Aldridge/Batum has as much championship potential as Roy/Oden/Aldridge/Batum. Of course, if Oden continues to be unable to play, that will suck. I didn't like the Randolph deal at the time and still don't.
The facts disagree with your disagreement. Gasol starts at C for Memphis at 35.5 MPG while ZBO starts PF for Memphis at 37.3 MPG. Not exactly splitting time.
I think your misunderstood me. I was disagreeing with what hoojacks said. I meant that if Zach could share time with Gasol, and still make the All-star team, then he could share time with Aldridge as well.
Which continues to make no sense - are you saying Aldridge would have been the starting center all season?
That's what I'm saying. Nate would have started Zach and LA all year. Even with Joel, there would have been plenty of minutes for Zach, LA and Joel.
If we had drafted CP3 instead of Martell we would have one all-star. If we had drafted MJ instead of Bowie we would probably have at least one more title. But none of those things are true so why bother. Also, there is only one ball so either Roy, Zach or Durant wouldn't have the stats they do now which in turn would make them miss the all-star game. So there wouldn't be a case where Portland would have three all-stars out of that group....Just Saying.
why couldn't Aldridge start at the 5? He's about average sized there and can guard most centers adequately. The reason Portland dealt Zach wasn't because they liked the offer that was on the table, it was because they'd had it with ZR lying to them and embarrassing the club. They announced to the league he would be dealt and did it days later. One can both not especially like the deal that they got and respect the reasons why they felt they had to make a move. STOMP
You are forgetting about pace. Memphis averages 7 more possessions per game than Portland does. Memphis is 9th in pace factor while we are 30th. There may have been the minutes, but there would not have been the shot attempts for all three players.
So you're saying it's impossible for teams to have more than one All Star? It actually happens all the time. The Lakers had 4 All Stars one year.
There would have been the rebounds though. Zach makes his living off offensive rebounds. You don't have to give him the ball every time down for him to be effective. If he can share the ball with OJ Mayo, Rudy Gay, and Marc Gasol and still make the team, then he could've done it here.
I understand your point about "what if's" but.. it is possible that they could have all been All-stars on one team.. Boston had 3 all-stars even though they sacrificed their stats. But I will admit that Zbo would have never been an all-star in Portland, he had too much baggage here.
The discussion wasn't about pace, it was about minutes... and I disagreed that their would not have been enough minutes to go around, or that LA and Zbo couldn't start the whole year together. But as far as pace goes.. I agree, Portland's offense doesn't have enough possessions to warrant the padded stats they would need.
But if we drafted Durant he wouldn't be an All-Star, because he'd be getting spot minutes behind Batum.
In the press conference today, Roy was asked who he's excited to play with in the ASG this year, and he replied: ZBo and KD. From BEdge: http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/280752/BrandonRoyPresser.mp3
