This blogger gave an interesting perspective on the whole issue on whether we picked MLS, MLB or NFL for the Rose City.
    Heres the whole article.

I'm not into soccer AT ALL but MLS > Minor League Baseball.

I wonder if the Timbers will be picked up by FSN (channel 34) or Comcast Sportsnet (channel 37). Timbers will hopefully get Nike commercials since they are the current sponsor still.

They will be picked up for sure! A few games will be on ESPN/ABC too.

Man, I wish we could get an NFL team. I know it's never going to happen, but I wish.....

My wish list goes like this:

    1. NFL
    2. MLB
    3. NHL
    4. MLS

I wouldn't be terribly upset if we got NHL. I would probably watch it. I just have never really had a reason to watch hockey. It's not a big sport around here. Not many people play it. If we actually had a pro team, I would get interested, but right now there is really no point.

The NFL views Portland in the Seattle market. We're only a few hours from Seattle and likely will never get an NFL team here.

I think we have a very good chance at landing an MLB team. The Pearl District stadium would be awesome.

The new big screen they are going to put in the renovated PGE park is awesome, btw.

This town would eat a NHL team for breakfast. However, since the Blazers own the only arena in town, and would consider another major league team to be a threat to it's monopoly on the local sports scene, it'll never happen. Let us not forget that the Blazers were for demolishing Memorial Coliseum and building a minor-bordering-on-major league baseball park, but 180'ed at the last minute when they realized that any other sports team in Portland would take attention away from them, and sabotaged the MC effort with the City Counsil.

MLB considers Portland to be in Seattle's market as well. An MLB team here will never realistically happen.

I read the proposal from the group that's trying to bring an MLB team here and they bring up a ton of information that can sway MLB.

The city of Portland has better MLB tv ratings than a lot of cities WITH their own MLB team. Etc.

In 2001, the Portland TV market generated a stunning 4.3 cable TV rating for Seattle Mariners' games, a better mark than 19 MLB cities recorded for their own teams - including the Yankees, Cubs and Giants. Most impressively, the Portland region then produced a 4.5 rating during the 2002 season, when the Mariners failed to make the playoffs.

Yep. This is a baseball-crazy town. Baseball would be perfect for Portland. It occurs in the late Spring, Summer and early Fall; which is the nicest time of the year in PDX; it's the kind of game that appeals to Portland's mellower side; and it dovetails perfectly with basketball, giving us year-'round sports.

I hate Tom Potter and Ted Kulongoski.

It will be interesting to see if the Timbers TV rating will go up this year with FSN. If we get a primer league team from England or Mexico I bet our attendance and ratings will be good!

Fez ----- Is the school spot deleted in that proposed drawing?

Someone told me that Portland meadows was taken off the idea for a AAA site because the area is in a flood plain. I still don't know why they can't use dirt to build the AAA stadium on a mound.

I prefer the Post Office location over the Portland Public School one.

If I owned a team in that league, I'd call them the Celtics.
