My uncle is a pastor (Vancouver, WA) and was in Pakistan with a group spreading the Christian word in the most unstable Muslim country on earth! He's brave but crazy. Their security were equipped with AK47's.
He told me but it escapes me at the moment. I would have worn some kind of bullet proof protection in this country. He's walking the city streets in this picture with nothing but a few armed guards.
Gee, I dunno. There's something about proselytizing with guards armed with weapons right beside you. Like some sort of unfair advantage or added pressure. Pastor: "Repent!" [sound of rifle bolts clicking into place] Sinner: "uh, OK."
The epitome of hypocrisy? Beats having him at my doorstep pushing AWAKE brochures through the mail slot. That's the trouble with religious people. They have absolutely no respect for other people's beliefs. The Jehovah's Witnesses are obnoxious enough, and they don't even carry heat.
Depends on where you are. Pakistan is a good start. Otherwise, it's pointless. If you've ever debated religion with a Muslim, there is no way you're going to get him/her to belief in anything else.
I have two fundamentalist christian siblings........same thing. I don't debate religion. I'm more of a Universalist. I'll figure it out when I get there. If there is no "there", big deal.
Interesting take. I'd say it's exactly the opposite around here. Endless threads talking about "those crazy Christians" and similar put-downs in other posts, yet off the top of my head I can't think of any threads started by the "religious people" on the board pushing their beliefs on others.
